All I'm doing is taking a look at guys who work for or have previously worked for Grant McCasland and wondering if - should he get the Texas Tech job as Jeff Goodman speculates - they could potentially be part of his staff here. That said, some of these names are being talked about in AAU and coaching circles and are worth filing away. Once again, I'm not reporting any of the below, consider this more like a blog post meant to generate discussion.

This is not an all encompassing list either. I went back through McCasland's previous staffs and tried to see who all has worked under him. I found it interesting that in 7 years as a D1 head coach there really hasn't been much turnover at all outside of a handful of names. That's a good sign, as it means he's great to work for.

Without further ado...

Barret Peery, Assistant, UNLV - former Texas Tech assistant in 2021/22. Favorite among fans/boosters/players. Recruited several guys on this roster such as Pop Isaacs, Lamar Washington, and others. Texas Tech Basketball announcer Geoff Haxton with an interesting tweet about this possibility the other day...

Al Pinkins, Assistant, Ole Miss - former Texas Tech assistant 2x, most recently this past season. Just took the Ole Miss job to join Chris Beard, but reportedly has an out to stay in Lubbock if that opportunity arises. Recruited 2023 commit Jason Jackson and was a big reason Tech landed Georgia transfer KyeRon Lindsay.

Ben McCollum, Head Coach, Northwest Missouri State - 4x Division II national champion. Good relationship with Grant McCasland, described in this article from The Athletic. Would he leave a DII head coaching job to be an assistant at the HM level?

Ross Hodge, Assistant, North Texas - has coached under Grant McCasland for the past seven seasons going back to their season at Arkansas State + the last 6 in Denton. Credited with implementing the no-middle defense prior to the 2020/21 season. Known as a strong recruiter.

Jareem Dowling, Assistant, Kansas State - finishing up his first season at KState under Jerome Tang. Was with Grant McCasland at UNT for the five years prior and also for their one year at Arkansas State. Known as a strong recruiter.

Matt Braeuer, Assistant, North Texas - has coached under Grant McCasland for the past five seasons. Native of Belton, TX. Played at Wichita State from 2004-2008. Also has coaching stops at the College of Charleston, Midland College, Maryland and Sam Houston State.

Achoki Moikobu, Assistant, North Texas - finishing up his first season under Grant McCasland. Was previously at Drake and Grand Canyon (under Bryce Drew). Prior to that was a coach at Sunrise Christian Academy, one of the top private basketball schools in the country.

James Miller, Assistant, Mississippi State - coached under Grant McCasland at Arkansas State (2016/17) and at UNT (2017/18). Since then has been under Chris Jans at New Mexico State and now Mississippi State. Former head coach at New Mexico Junior College.
