Dismuke Has Raiders In Top Two

DYLANDISMUKE11_16200A.JPG
As
we briefly mentioned earlier this week, Duncan (Okla.) offensive lineman
Dylan Dismuke
has Texas Tech in his top two along with Arkansas. The
6-foot-6, 292-pound prospect attended the Red Raiders' junior day two Saturdays
ago and came away very impressed with head coach Tommy Tuberville.

"We talked for probably about 30 minutes in his office after practice," Dismuke
said. "That was pretty good. He was a smooth guy. If you talked to him on the
phone, you'd never think he was a head coach -- when you talk guys like Bob
Stoops, they're kind of different when you talk to them if that makes sense."

Dismuke was also blown away by Lubbock.

"What amazed me the most was the town of Lubbock and all that," he said.
"Everybody talks it down, that it's a small town and it's nothing and all that
but I got down there and it reminded me of Duncan where I live at right now
except 250,000 people live there."

The Razorbacks are the other major player in Dismuke's recruitment, and he'll be
heading to Fayetteville this week for an unofficial visit. According to the
Rivals250 watch list member, it would take a lot for another program to get in
the mix.

"I've pretty much got it narrowed down unless something just jumps out and they
show me a lot (of interest) and change my mind somehow, but right now I'm down
to two," Dismuke said. "I'm pretty much down to two unless, it would have to be
one of those other colleges within eight hours or so jump out and show me they
care a lot and apologize for everything (not showing interest before).

"Really, I'm going to go off who shows me that they care the most and that they
want me the most -- that's what I'm going off of. I don't want it to be where
the coaches because they didn't have anybody else."

Neither in-state school has offered Dismuke and that doesn't appear likely to
change. Oklahoma State isn't expected to take more than two or three offensive
linemen in their 2011 class and Oklahoma thinks that they are in really good
shape with several out-of-state targets (namely

Brey Cook
).

As for Dismuke's timetable?

"It would be, at the earliest, mid-summer to fall," he said. "It just depends on
how I feel and how it hits me and stuff like that. I started out the year not
even wanting to commit or even consider it until signing day but I'm kind of
leaning towards next fall, probably."

Latest on Okonji

Texas Tech continues to aggressively recruit Las Vegas (Nev.) Findlay Prep power
forward

Godwin Okonji
. Red Raider assistant coach Stew Robinson spoke with Okonji
earlier this week and the word we get is that his coaches want him to take his
last official visit before he ultimately decides anything. What is interesting
about that is that we aren't sure when that visit will occur because Okonji can
sign as soon as next week and he'll be in Memphis this weekend playing in the
Jack Jones Shootout.

More as we know it.

Brewer Moves Forward With Plan To Graduate Early

Austin
(Texas) Lake Travis quarterback, and Texas Tech commit,
Michael Brewer
did more than just attend a Red Raider football practice last
week when he was in Lubbock. No, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect also showed
off the university to his mother and took a major step toward his goal of
graduating early from high school.

"She loved it, had a really good time," Brewer said. "She liked where the
players would live and how the athletes are taken care of academic-wise.

"We met with an academic counselor and I was able to register for summer school
that I'll be taking this year, which will be a correspondence course with Tech
so that I can graduate early."

That means that if everything goes according to plan -- and there's zero reason
to believe that it won't -- Brewer will be going through his first spring as a
member of the Texas Tech football team a year from now.

Prunty Was Difference For Whitney

We mentioned last week that Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy standout

Bo Whitney
had agreed to join the Texas Tech football program as a preferred
walk-on at tight end, and now have a little more background information after
some communication with his father, Jimbo Whitney.

"Whitney played tight end and quarterback at Hargrave for then head coach Robert
Prunty," Whitney wrote. "Prunty had offered Whitney a full scholarship to come
back to Hargrave and play quarterback next year (2010) which he had planned to
do.

"That all changed when Coach Prunty was hired by Coach Tuberville to be an
assistant coach at Texas Tech. Coach Prunty invited Bo out to Lubbock to look at
the school and the football program and he was very impressed."

The elder Whitney noted that his son (6-foot-5, 230-pounds) will enroll at Texas
Tech, and begin to work out with the team, in June.

Quick Hits

* DeSoto (Texas) wide receiver, and TCU commit,

Cameron White
confirmed to someone within the Rivals network that he will be
attending the Red & Black Game next Saturday.

* Muleshoe (Texas) defensive end
Cooper Washington
confirmed to RRS via text message late Thursday
that he will be attending the Red Raiders' scrimmage on Saturday with his
parents.

* Spring (Texas) Klein Oaks tight end

Max Stevenson
had previously been scheduled to attend the Red & Black Game
but it appears as if he'll be heading to Oklahoma's spring game instead. He
confirmed to someone within the Rivals network on Thursday that Texas Tech is
still heavily recruiting him and the main reason why he's headed to Norman
instead of Lubbock is that he already checked out the Red Raiders in February.
