Question about Home Warranty

We just bought this house in December, paid a little extra for the home warranty to cover the pool. We noticed about 6 weeks ago that we had a hard time keeping our salt level up on our pool so we ran some test to find out we were losing about 2” a day. We hired a leak detection company to come over and he isolated it to one of our skimmers.

I think it’s safe to say this was an “unknown pre-existing condition” when we bought the house. Will that be an issue? Should we tell them it’s a new condition even though it’s new to us? I have never had a good interaction with these home warranty companies and usually don’t renew them once the original contract is up.

Since it’s always easier to tell other people how to handle these things than doing it yourself, what’s the best approach I should take towards the home warranty company?
