Hey fellas,
I'm a coach for my daughter's U8 soccer team. I don't know if it's maturity, age, ability or what but we're having the HARDEST time getting the girls to spread out and not bunch up on the ball (basically stay in position). They're tiring themselves out running all over the field because everyone's chasing the ball, and moving up to U10 next year where the field is bigger. We're also having issues with getting them to run ahead of the girl with the ball in order to receive a pass. Does anyone out there have any tips/tricks/drills I could use to help them spread out and get ahead of the ball?
Also, my daughter is one of the better players on the team and is a natural defender. She just gravitates that way when the ball changes possession. Next year she wants to play goalie (they don't play with one now) so if you have any goalkeeping advice I'd sure appreciate it.
EDIT: I should mention that this is rec league soccer, not academy or club.
