The only recruiting success Matt Wells had was finding immediate impact transfer portal guys. Oddly, this area of recruiting appears to be where McGuire’s staff has failed to meet expectations to this point. A few of the guys above are decent contributors but it’s a pretty big miss rate, especially compared to Wells.
Wells staff recruited terribly but they were able to find impactful portal guys like Tyree Wilson, Colin Schooler, Tyler Shough, Kaylon Gieger, RJ Turner, Reggie Pearson, Muddy Waters, Rayshad Williams, Malik Dunlap, Jesiah Pierre, Eric Monroe, Zech McPhearson, Jacob Morgenstern, Brandon Randle, Ja’Marcus Ingram, Evan Rambo, TJ Storment, Henry Colombi, Josh Burger, Armand Shyne, etc.
If there’s any hope for improvement in 2024, McGuire must do a lot better in the portal this offseason.
