A frustrating afternoon for Texas Tech, falling to Villanova 85-69.

Some thoughts on this one…

-Tech played their most undisciplined half of basketball all season in the first half. Stupid mistakes and unnecessary fouls and it was the difference in the half and was the reason you trailed by eight at the break.

-Tech played decently, defense was solid, outside of the fouls. They gave you a shot on that side of the floor.

-Tech’s offense is just really anemic. There was no fight to get to the line like we’ve seen in the first three games, and they continued to settle for shots beyond the arc that went in at a bit better of a clip than earlier this month.

-Warren Washington had a really strong day defensively and made some really strong blocks in the second half.

-Pop Isaacs is on one of his worst cold streaks from a shooting perspective that he has had. He finally hit a big shot to cut it to four from the corner with just around 12 to go. Hopefully he can continue to progress. He had a really solid second half, but the point stands.

-You saw some positive regression from three, which was good to see, but it wasn’t enough to ever deliver a knockout.

-Joe Toussaint had a solid day when driving the ball, but he has struggled to shoot from range all year, something that wasn’t any different today.

-I liked what I saw early from Devan Cambridge, but Nova did a good job of keeping him quiet in the second half.

-Rebounding wasn’t great all afternoon, felt like Nova had a ton of second chances.

-Nova did a really good job of keeping Tech out of the paint and it showed. Tech fired a ridiculous amount of three-pointers. Just not going to cut it.

-The refs were way too active in this one, on both sides. Was completely ticky tack for everyone.

-This team is going to have to find a way to score. I don’t know who it is or where it comes from, but you need someone to step up from a group of role players at this point. You saw it today, plenty of runs that got you close, but nobody to ever delivered that go-ahead bucket.

Regroup and knockoff Northern Iowa tomorrow morning. Cannot drop one against them. Long way to go in the season, but this was frustrating.
