The Red Raider Confidential is sponsored by Cardinal's Sports Center. If you
need Texas Tech gear or Under Armour apparel, the best place to go in our
opinion is Cardinal's -- they have three convenient locations in Lubbock, a
brand new store in Plano and a fantastic selection on
their website.

Cardinal's

Wreck'em Tech T-Shirts
are now available for purchase! They are the only such t-shirts endorsed by Texas Tech and the Saddle Tramps.
Football season kicks off in less than three months, so be sure to get your
gameday gear in time for the Red Raiders' season-opener against SMU.

No Changes For Davis

ANDREDAVIS1NA10200.JPG
Tampa
(Fla.) Jefferson wide receiver Andre Davis listed a top seven of Florida State,
Kansas, Miami (Fla.), Rutgers, USF, Texas Tech and West Virginia a little over a
week ago and, so far, that list is holding steady.

"Those have been the guys who I've been talking to the most recently," he said.
"Not a lot has changed since I last listed them as my top seven.

"I'm still set with the seven I gave. I haven't taken anybody off of that list
yet. I'm interested in most of those schools for different reasons and it's
going to be tough trying to decide where I'm going to go. I'm just wanting to
focus on the football I have coming up next. Within my top seven, I'm still wide
open right now."

Davis is almost exclusively focused on his senior season, so much so that he
hasn't given the idea of official visits much thought.

"I don't know yet where I'll be taking those," he said. "I haven't even decided
on one, yet. I'll probably be taking them later on towards December sometime. I
want to be able to focus on my football team and season alone. So, I'm trying
not to let the recruiting and stuff get in the way of that."

Still, Davis continues to stay in touch with Texas Tech running backs coach Chad
Scott.

"I talk to Coach Scott almost every week. He's a really good dude and an easy
guy to talk to," he said. "We talk about school and everything else, as well.
Anything I've got going on he's always down to talk about and give me advice on.
He's been nice to have there and he's somebody I feel like will look out for my
best interests outside of football."

Davis also noted that the opportunity to play early is something he discusses
with Scott.

"We talk about playing time a lot and how I'd have the opportunity to get there
and make an impact early," he said. "That's something that definitely gets my
attention. I'd love to be able to produce as soon as I get there."

Aside from the Red Raiders, Davis also holds offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati,
FIU, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Memphis,
North Carolina, Purdue, Rutgers, USF and West Virginia.

Lewis Knows A Lot About Raiders

Spring (Texas) Klein Oak defensive lineman

Jon Lewis
confirmed to RRS
earlier this week that he plans to visit Texas Tech sometime this month; a big
reason why he'll be tripping up to the South Plains is his relationship with
outside receivers coach Tommy Mainord.

"He's a really cool guy. He seems like he's just totally focused on the future
there," Lewis said. "We've just been talking about when I'm going to make the
trip up there, either in early or late July. We've been talking mainly about my
visit to Lubbock here lately and not a lot else. He's a really cool guy, though.
We've got a good relationship."

Lewis will have a chance to broaden his horizons in regards to the Red Raiders
when he visits next month but he already knows quite a bit about the program.

"I know they have a really good class coming in for 2011," he said. "I know they
have a good quarterback coming in, as well as a lot of other quality guys.
They've had a good football program for a while now and I've heard a lot about
how beautiful their campus is.

"Their staff is one that I know is as good as it gets and they're really kind of
a total package set up now. New coaches, along with the new facilities and their
success in the past decade, are all things that are making them look good."

McGaster Not Focused On Recruiting

DRESHONEMCGASTER11_4200A.JPG
We
spoke with the ever-elusive

Dre'Shon McGaster
this week and learned that the Foley (Ala.) defensive
lineman isn't really that focused on recruiting right now.

"I got an offer from (Texas Tech)," he confirmed. "I can't remember when they
offered. My coach came by and told me, it was around when I was getting out of
school for the summer."

McGaster said that while he doesn't talk to the Red Raiders much and isn't sure
which coach is recruiting him, he is interested in the program. The 6-foot-3,
225-pound prospect also holds offers from FIU, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Ole
Miss, Mississippi State, Troy and a few others.

He hasn't taken any unofficial visits yet and doesn't expect to check out any
programs between now and when school starts.

"I don't have anything planned for the summer," McGaster said. "I haven't played
out visits yet."

As for when he hopes to reach a decision?

"I'd probably say like my fifth game," he said. "I'd like to have a decision
while I'm playing football, around the middle of the season."

Daniels Plans Summer Decision

Albuquerque (N.M.) La Cueva athlete

Ronnie Daniels
has had a busy summer. The three-star prospect has already
checked out Arizona, New Mexico and Texas Tech and is now planning an unofficial
visit to Tulsa.

"Just traveling man, lots of traveling, I love the summer time," he said. "I've
visited U of A (Arizona) and Texas Tech and was just down at New Mexico talking
to all of their coaches.

"I am going to Tulsa because of their high-powered offense. That is a place I
want to see. I am not sure where else because of the other places recruiting me
are kind of far away, Illinois and Minnesota are too far away for my family to
go right now. I will probably take official visits there or something like
that."

Daniels told RRS that he hopes to make a decision before the season
starts and that his top schools are currently Arizona, Illinois, New Mexico,
Texas Tech, Tulsa and San Diego State. While he might not be leaning in any
particular direction at the moment, the Red Raiders have a key figure on their
side.

"My mom wants me to go there because she went there, but she just wants me to be
happy," he said. "Wherever that is at, she will be happy."

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound standout acknowledged that the offer from Texas Tech is
a big deal to him.

"Just an offer from them means a lot just because it is such a big school with
good coaches and they compete year in and year out," Daniels said. "I have
always wanted to go there because both my mom and dad went there; it is a good
football town."

Akins Wants To Visit

CHAVISAKINSF11521_200.JPG
Homestead
(Fla.) defensive tackle
Chavis Akins
confirmed to RRS this
week that he is interested in Texas Tech.

"The offer (from the Red Raiders) means a lot to me," he said. "Any offer means
a lot to me because that means that they have seen me and are impressed with
what I bring to the table. I enjoy impressing schools, I really am trying to get
out of a bad area and trying to get through everything for me and my momma, that
way I can help myself and my family."

The 6-foot-3, 320-pound prospect, who also holds offers from Alabama, Florida,
Florida State, LSU and others, hopes to speak with head coach Tommy Tuberville
soon and set up a visit.

"I want to visit there," he said. "I have a high interest in any school that
offers me. I will consider every school equally that way I can pick the school
that is best for me. I look at Tech and see a school that I could be playing for
and making an impact that is one reason I want to talk to the head coach so much
so I can set up a visit."

Akins hopes to make a decision sometime during the season and claims to be
wide-open.

"Well, I am actually going to hold off on that until around the middle of the
season," he said. "I hear there is a buzz going around that I was a lock to
Florida state but I am still very open and still want to see other places."

Two Quick Donald Langley Quotes

Summarizing his prep career:

DL: "Coming out of high school in 2007 I was an All-American, I
played the the UnderArmour All-American Game which was the top high school
players in the country. I was the No. 12 defensive tackle in the nation, I had
over 55 scholarships. My official visits were Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan,
Tennessee and Penn State. You name it, I had it.

"I actually played spring ball at Tennessee, so I didn't walk or go to prom or
nothing like that. I was on the gridiron doing spring ball and trying to get
better. All-State, all that kind of stuff so it was a pretty good high school
career."

On leadership:

DL: "I just want to be a leader. I want to do what I've got to
do to be a captain or something like that and I just want to do the best I can
do on the field and just build off of it so when the season is over and we see
what our goals were from before the season and what our goals are after the
season we accomplished those goals and we did it as a team."
