Williams Talks Junior Day Visit

We confirmed Thursday that Spring (Texas) Dekaney running back Trey
Williams
would be attending Tech's junior day this Sunday. Williams,
one of the top two running backs in Texas for 2012, has a brother on the Red
Raiders' roster (Tyson Williams) who transfered from West Texas A&M following
the 2010 season.

Who are you hearing from the most right now?

TW: "Auburn, Tech, Texas A&M, and Texas. I've been to
A&M's junior day so far, but that's it. I'm going to Tech's junior day this
weekend. I'm looking forward to getting out there and learning a little more
about their program."

How familiar are you with the Red Raiders?

TW: "I know their team pretty well. My brother is there
and he talks about it all the time. He really likes it there. So I'm going to be
sure and visit him too while I'm there and just see what it's like to be a part
of their program. It should be a fun trip. I know he has a good time in
Lubbock."

What coach have you been in contact with at Tech?

TW: "I've been talking with Coach Mainord. He's a real
cool guy. He's been one of the coaches that have been the easiest to get along
with.

"He's pretty young so it makes it easier for us to relate to each other. He's
been straight with me, which is something I look for in any coach. I'm looking
forward to visiting with him this weekend and hopefully meeting some of the
other coaches there."

Will distance play a factor in your decision?

TW: "It does play a little bit of a part, but things can
change. I first thought I'd like to play closer to home, but depending on what
kind of offers I'm going to see, I may have to reconsider that. I'm just taking
my time and waiting to see which direction I go."

Tech Leads For Deante' Gray

Houston Westside (Texas) wide receiver Deante' Gray has begun
seeing interest in his recruitment pick up recently. He has already started the
rounds of junior days -- visits to Texas A&M and Baylor are already in the books
-- and plans to check out Tech next Saturday.

When asked about a having a leader at this point, Gray was quick to call out the
Red Raiders.

"Right now it is Texas Tech; they are sticking out to me," the 5-foot-10,
180-pound prospect said. "They seem like they feel what I do; the coaches, I
just really like them and then there's everyone else."

Running backs coach Chad Scott has led the charge so far, being
the area recruiter for the Houston area, but Gray said that he has also called
and spoken with head coach Tommy Tuberville and offensive
coordinator Neal Brown.

"I've been in contact with coach Chad Scott mostly, but I have also talked to
the head coach and the offensive coordinator," said Gray.

Gray also holds offers from Colorado, Tulsa and UTSA.

Jones Not In A Hurry

Austin (Texas) wide receiver Cayleb Jones is fresh off of
Texas' junior day, and he seems a bit perplexed as to what his next move might
be.

"I'm weighing all of my options, but right now I'm conflicted over a lot of
things," Jones said. "The Texas junior day was nice, but I still want to make
sure I check out what others have to offer before I rush into anything. I don't
really have a timetable for anything right now. I kind of wish I did, but right
now I'm just working my way through it all."

Jones said he's hearing from Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Tech, Oklahoma State, and
Texas A&M the most right now. His schedule is clear for now with no other junior
days booked, but his close relationship with 2011 Tech signee Michael
Brewer
may be a factor in getting him to the Hub City sometime soon.

"I talk to Michael almost two or three times a week. It's not always about
recruiting, though. We've been friends since we were real little so we're
comfortable with each other about everything really.

I know he likes it at Tech and has a lot of good things to say about their
program. He knows I trust what he has to say, but he hasn't pressured me or
anything. We're real tight and I definitely take what he has to say seriously."

Tech Or A&M For Wilson

Aledo (Texas) offensive lineman Michael Wilson has narrowed
things down to two schools: Tech or Texas A&M. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound prospect
will be making a second trip to College Station this weekend.

"I want to get to know the coaches," Wilson said. "Last time I was in College
Station I didn't really get to talk to the coaches. I know the Tech coaches
pretty well and I like the Tech coaches a lot, I'm just trying to get a
relationship with the A&M coaches."

Wilson attended Tech's junior day earlier this month, and plans to make a return
trip with his father for the Red Raiders' spring game.

"I went to the junior day a couple of weeks ago and that was great," Wilson
said. "I had tons of one-on-one time with Coach (Matt) Moore,
Coach (Tommy) Tuberville and Coach (Sonny) Cumbie."

Petteway Discusses Big Game

Galveston (Texas) Ball notched a signature victory last week against a No.
1-ranked La Marque. Tech signee Terran Petteway played a huge
role in the win for the Hornets.

Petteway finished the game with 23 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two
assists. He was the only player on the team to have a double-double as the next
highest scorer for the team only had nine points.

"It was a big time rivalry; it's been a rivalry ever since I was little," he
said. "They have good players and we have good players, and this game has been
built up ever since the summer and it lived up to its hype last night."

While his season is going extremely well, Petteway noted that he has been able
to keep track of the Red Raiders' season and thinks that they can make a push
into post-season play.

"They're just struggling a little bit," he said. "I think if they find that fire
again, if they get fired up again, that they will get back on track and try to
at least make the NIT and hopefully win that."

Making the NIT is not unfamiliar territory for these Red Raiders as they made a
late season run to qualify for the tournament, making in all the way to the
third round before eventually being knocked out by Ole Miss in Oxford.

Since signing with Tech in November, Petteway has kept in touch with the
coaching staff on a regular basis.

"I've been talking with Coach (Chris) Beard, Coach
(Bubba) Jennings
and Coach Stew (Robinson), I always
talk to them," he said adding that he and Coach Beard talk about once a week.

As far as the 2011-2012 season goes, Petteway said that the coaching staff is
expecting him to come in and make an immediate impact and said that the staff
has not even mentioned him red-shirting hisd freshman year.

"They have been telling me that they are expecting me to come in and play right
away," Petteway said. "That's why I have got to come in with the right mindset
and just work hard, everyday.

"I hope to come in and do real good. I hope to help get us back where Texas Tech
used to be, in the thick of the Big 12 and make the NCAA tournament next year."

Petteway signed with Tech over offers from Clemson, Colorado, Creighton,
Mississippi, Oregon, and Penn State among others.

Tech Standing Out To Sanders

Athens (Texas) athlete Kendall Sanders has attended junior days
at Tech, TCU and A&M recently, and the 2012 target stands to add two more Big 12
programs to that list this weekend.

"I'll be at OSU on the 19th, and at Baylor on the 20th," Sanders said. "I had a
great time at Tech's a few weeks ago, and A&M's was alright too even though it
didn't end up perfectly. I was hoping for an offer and it didn't come so I'm not
sure what's up with them right now."

Sanders indicated that the next few days could be important as he hopes to
narrow down his list a bit more with the goal of making a decision this summer.

"I'm hoping to be able to narrow things down a little bit after this weekend,"
he said. "I'm feeling TCU and Tech a lot, but OSU is great too and that's why
I'm headed there this weekend. I've got a lot of great choices and I'm wanting
to make a decision in the summer, so I'm not trying to waste any time with
anybody that doesn't like me right now."

"I'm looking forward to sitting down after this weekend and seeing where
everyone stacks up. I won't know for sure, but I should have a better idea of
what I'd like to do then."
