Earlier in the week, I broke down the draft and how it affected Texas Tech, but today it is about Big 12 signees who were drafted and their case to sign with their MLB club or opt for college.

Charlie Soto – UCF:

Soto was selected as the 34th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins and is sure to sign with them. The PerfectGame No. 13 overall player in the class touches 100 mph with his fastball.

Myles Naylor – Texas Tech:

Naylor is well documented on here, joining his brother Josh as a Tech commit to get picked, and in this case, likely sign with his team. In Myles’ case, it’s the Oakland Athletics with the No. 39 pick in this year's draft.

Travis Sykora – Texas:

Sykora was one of the best prep arms in the state of Texas in this cycle and was selected like it as the first pick of the second day, No. 71 to the Washington Nationals. The Longhorns are likely to lose Sykora but landed their second highest commit, Will Gasparino.

Kyle Carr – TCU:

Carr, is admittedly an arm I don’t know a ton about, but he is a JUCO committed to TCU who touches 95 from the left side. He joins Abilene Christian transfer RHP Riley Baumann to be a TCU commit and get selected. I expect both to sign.

Garrett Baumann – UCF:

Not to be confused with the 2022 Texas RHP Texas Tech commit with the same name, Baumann is one of the best prospects out of Florida and joins Soto as a high-octane arm who was selected and has already signed with the Braves for $200,000 over slot value.

Kannon Kemp – Oklahoma:

Kemp is another strong arm that is likely to be poached from the conference, this time from the Sooners. The Padres took him in the eighth round.

Nehomar Ochoa – Houston:

Ochoa, the two-way stud out of Galena Park, is likely to see a solid overslot deal from the Astros, taking from the college in the city they share. The Cougars top recruit is likely to not make it to campus.

Now that we are in the later rounds, most of the rest of the draftees’ signing cases are somewhat up in the air. All of these additions would be huge for their respective programs, but Heuer and Jones would be immediate impacts for the Red Raiders.

Late Round Big 12 Signees Drafted in 2023:

Josh Tiedemann – TCU - Signed

Mac Heuer – Texas Tech

Jacob Gholston – Oklahoma

Gavyn Jones – Texas Tech

Donovan LaSalle – Oklahoma State

Domonic Voegele – Kansas

Max Staley – BYU
