As we all know the football transfer portal opened last week, and we've seen a handful of Red Raiders hop in so far.

Cameron Dickey, RB - scholarship or PWO?

With that said, Texas Tech needs more players to leave if they want to add to the 2024 roster in the spring portal window. I do expect one or two more from the list above to potentially enter that wouldn't shock anybody.

Still, the coaches do need to make contingency plans in case they lose an expected contributor. And they have made and are making those plans.

Texas Southern transfer DT Elinus Noel III entered the portal and has announced offers from the likes of Baylor, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Maryland, Kansas State and a few G5's so far.

Texas Tech has been in contact and Noel III let me know he plans to get back in contact with Tech coaches tomorrow. Could an offer be coming? It's possible, but like noted above, it would probably take a current DT leaving to open up that spot.

The 6-foot-2, 330 pound Noel, who started his career at Nicholls State, put up 52 tackles, 7.5 TFL's and 3.5 sacks this past season.

People who follow recruiting might remember Denton Guyer's Ryan Yaites as part of the 2023 class. Texas Tech actually made his top 4 and were strongly in consideration, but he ended up choosing LSU.

After a season in Baton Rouge, Yaites announced his plans to enter the portal. Could the Red Raiders circle back around for the former four-star prospect? I think there's some mutual interest and Tech has lost 2 DB's to the portal so far...

Lastly, a starting caliber offensive lineman out of the portal officially visited last week. A decision is expected soon, but just reading the tea leaves I don't expect the player to choose Texas Tech. This is because, as noted, Tech doesn't exactly have the spots right now. I could be wrong (and hope to be wrong, he's a stud). If and when the player announces his decision I can go more in depth but that's about all I can say right now in the interest of all parties.
