Watching Morton yesterday was definitely giving me some flashbacks to Zach Wilson.
Morton has plus arm strength and mobility. He also has touch and is processing things well at this early stage. But I think the thing I was most excited about was his competitiveness. Before the injury he fought the entire play looking for WR, buying time and valuing each play. After the injury he still kept battling and both of those traits and the improv ability reminded me of Pat.
Trying not to knee jerk, but if he is healthy you have to play him the rest of the year. Kid has all the traits you need to be big time at the college level. However the biggest concern at this point which you saw yesterday is durability.
Morton needs to put on another 10 pounds in the offseason, which will help him alot. It is great that we have Smith because he is a very solid QB with upside of his own. I still think we will need all QBs to finish the year but also hoping we can keep Smith because I imagine he will have opportunities but you can win a Big 12 championship with Morton.
I get the coaches playing things out the way they did. Morton needed to learn the playbook and Shough is good with experience and Smith can be effective in his own right.
So apparent we’ve got to keep investing lots of resources in our OL. We’ve got a signal caller for the future and we’ve got to keep him healthy.
