On Broadway: Having fun again

The way the Horned Frogs won last Saturday is a gut wrencher for Red Raider fans. No two ways to split it. They won on an all-stakes, Texas Hold Em royal flush. They hit the jackpot on a minor-miracle play that you couldn't duplicate again if you tried. And I know that's just a dagger to the heart for all of you out there. But still...

You've got to admit, you had a lot of fun though, didn't you?

Yes, after years of skepticism, I think you all as Texas Tech fans can simply have fun again. You aren't going to win every weekend, but with what Kliff Kingsbury and his staff have developed on offense, with Pat Mahomes running and gunning behind the wheel with a myriad of explosive playmakers, you can enjoy every Saturday, regardless of outcome.

For years now, I think there have been games you can look at on the schedule a few weeks down the road that you could chalk up as a loss, simply because the offense wasn't equipped to win shootouts, and the defense has been - to put it grand-piano-falling-onto-concrete bluntly - real bad.

But now, Tech's offense is as good as essentially anyone else's in the entire country, and they may be more explosive than anyone else not named Baylor. And the defense, despite giving up 55 points to TCU, still held them to a handful of stops that were good enough to get Tech a win on Saturday.

You're going to see the same game again on Saturday against the Bears, too. Tech's formula for success this year will be as follows: Make the most of your possessions, limit turnovers and penalties, while taking advantage of those things on defense.

It's that simple, and it's fun again.
