On Broadway: Preseason Superlative Predictions

We're now only 9 days away from kickoff for Texas Tech's 2015 football season. Fans are chomping at the bit to see what they've been hearing about and imagining throughout the offseason, and the Red Raider players and coaches will find out how much their hard work has paid off. So, today I wanted to put out a few preseason superlatives...

Newcomer of the Year - WR Tony Brown - Brown was an electric playmaker in high school, and his work ethic and football IQ have helped him translate that skill set much quicker than some might have imagined. I believe he can be a very, very effective trim piece to Tech's offense similar to what Justin Stockton and Jakeem Grant were as freshmen, spelling Devin Lauderdale and making the most of his snaps.

Most Improved Player - DT Rika Levi - It's been no secret that Levi made huge strides in the offseason, losing a ton of weight and transforming his mentality. I think those two things will make him one of the better DT's that Tech's had in recent memory, and he should really help the Red Raiders both with improving run defense and getting interior pass rush pressure as a senior.

Defensive Player of the Year - LB Micah Awe - Awe has come a long, long way in his career as a Red Raider. From a green, wide eyed freshman that was forced into duty to a seasoned, staple veteran, I think Awe will have a great year in the middle of the Red Raider defense, filling gaps around the defensive line and excelling in pass coverage.

Offensive Player of the Year - WR Devin Lauderdale - While DeAndre Washington certainly deserves all the praise he will receive, and it will be close race between the two, I believe that Lauderdale could be a terror on the outside for defenses this fall. It's all about consistency with the junior receiver, and if he's steady, he'll be a monster this fall.

Most Valuable Player: QB Pat Mahomes - I think most believe - including myself - that the Whitehouse native will step out onto the field as Texas Tech's quarterback on September 5th at this point, and I also believe he could have a very, very good season. His ability to both extend plays, throw the ball downfield, and rally his teammates around him will make Coach Kingsbury's offense as potent as its been since he's been in Lubbock.

Now, we wait and see if I'm a huge idiot or not.

Power Rankings: Fruits

With the summer coming to a close, the season where most of us consume the most fruit is also ending. So today, I thought I would share what my favorite sweet, tasty snacks are in my power rankings.

5. Cantaloupe - I remember when I was little that my mom would carve out balls of cantaloupe in the summertime. Talk about sweet deliciousness that I still love.

4. Bananas - I wasn't a fan of bananas growing up, but they've for sure grown on me as I've gotten older. A good, solid snack, not too sweet but have a lot of substance.

3. Pineapples - That sweet/slightly sour mixture is one of my favorite tastes in the whole world, and I love adding pineapples to all sorts of dishes. A great summertime compliment to any meal.

2. Avocados - Simply because I get guacamole from them. YES IT COUNTS OKAY.

1. Peaches - Peaches are simply the best in my book. They're sweet, soft, and delicious, and they also make up the best kind of cobbler. My favorite, no question.

Off The Reservation: Finding pants that fit is a pain in the....

So, while I am a fairly tall individual, my body was gifted with two genetic measurements that make finding pants that truly fit me like a game of Where's Waldo: I have a very long torso with short legs, and I'm built like a refrigerator. See, if I was short, this wouldn't be an issue, but being tall throws the whole Pants Game off because of my slightly out-of-frame measurements. If I buy 34 length pants, it looks like I'm trying to go MC Hammer and bring back the parachutes, but if I buy 32 length pants, they're way too short and make me look like I'm getting ready to go on a walk through a stream.

On top of that, say I go with the 32s and just accept that the pants are gonna be a bit too short, but that's ok if I'm wearing chukkas or boots. Welp, good luck finding the ole 38 by 32s, big boy. Congratulations, your lower half is shaped like a swelling electric plug.

So, in short: Buying pants is my personal hell.
