I have been saying this team can and should win 7-9 games bowl included. Not delusional, drunk off the kool aid, or drunk on Titos. I could be completely wrong, but here are the reasons why I feel that way. Sorry if this is long winded.
1) Tyler Shough - The highest rated rivals QB we have ever had on our roster since Graham will be QB1. He played well at Oregon as well and led them to a Pac 12 title so we know he can do it at the power 5 level too. I haven't checked this stat, but Shough is probably the highest rated QB in the Big 12 that is not on the Oklahoma roster (Rattler and Williams)
2) Best QB room since Leach era. Shough, Colombi, Donovan Smith (my personal favorite out of the bunch because of his potential), and Behren Morton combined with Cumbie coaching them is the best QB room we have had in a long long time. No more Vinny Testaverde jr Bowman or McClane Carter playing for us ( no offense to those guys).
3) Cumbie - The Shough/Cumbie combo should be light years ahead of the Yost/Bowman combo. Bowman was never the same after his injuries and I wish him well at Michigan, but I am very excited to see what Cumbie can cook up with our weapons and a legit QB. He found creative ways at TCU to get the ball to Doctson/Reagor/Pro Wells/Taye Barber when GP wasn't trying to reign the offense in.
4) RB WR and TE - These 3 positions are extremely deep and talented. RB- Thompson White Townsend Valdez Brooks are the deepest and most talented group we have had in a while. Same could be said about TE. Tharp and Castles (the twin towers) will be VERY VERY good weapons in the future. WR- We have the weapons to do some serious damage. EE hopefully comes into season healed and Sparkman, Loic, Bradley, Cleveland are all huge targets and Myles Price will be the next great slot wr here. Getting Kaylon Geiger was a big pickup. The mix of huge WR's and speed/shifty slots and talented RB's have us in a very good spot.
5) OL - 3 of the positions we should feel pretty good about with Storment, Wright, and Deaton. The other two positions we just need to be serviceable and hopefully we can find that in Larry Moore, Landon Peterson, Josh Burger, Rogers, Carde Verhulst or one of the other guys.
6). Veteran Defense - We have stockpiled the DL with Bradford, Hutchins, Tyree Wilson, LB Moore, Ibeneme, Blidi, Devin Drew, Mbanasor. Would love a Mckinner Dixon Daniel Howard Brandon Williams pass rush specialist on the roster but I like what we have compared to the past. I like the LB's and depth with Schooler, Riko, Merriweather, Derrick Lewis, Morgenstern, Bouyer Randle, Eldridge, Matthews, Robinson, Jesiah Pierre. The DB's are the best they have been in a long long long time. Bringing in Muddy Waters, Pearson, Dunlap, Williams, along with having Frye Fields Monroe Kobee Minor back is big. Not the 85 bears but better than anything from 2014-2020.
7) Love or hate wells, he has rebuilt this roster and has actually given us decent talent and depth at almost every position. Enough to win the natty? no probably not, but enough to win 7-9 games with the bowl... Absolutely.
8) Lastly, Schedule- We should go 3-0 in OOC and ABSOLUTELY SHOULD beat KU KSU WVU and RU. 7 wins. TCU at home could very well be a W and the way we have played OSU 2/3 years, that one should be a close one. Spencer Sanders is a turnover machine. The only clear cut losses I see are probably OU and Iowa State. OU is OU and Matt Campbell is infuriating to play against, he has destroyed us every year and should have ended kk's tenure with 65-10, but hopefully Cumbie has a way to figure out that F'ing cloud defense. I need to go look at tcu’s offense under Cumbie vs the double cloud and Campbell
Bottom line - I believe we have the QB, QB room in case of injury, overall talent and OC and DC to have a successful season, we just gotta do it damn it.
