at this point last season? I know that I (as well as many others) thought we had a quarterback that would be one of the best, if not the best in the conference. I also thought that our receivers would be very good. Maybe not great, losing Jace and Ward, but still good.
I also thought we had the makings of a very good O line, and with Rika coming in, I expected to be improved in our run defense. I also think I was not down on our linebacker corp, and thought our db's were showing promise.
I believe I was projecting somewhere around a 7-5 to 8-4 season, just like this year. Then we played our first two games, and I'm thinking, 'they might just be working out the kinks. They couldn't get up for inferior competition. I didn't expect to turn it over like we are. I thought Rika was going to be more effective than this.'
After the first quarter of the Arkansas game, I thought we were finally on track. After all, we are undefeated and have a real chance to beat this SEC team (which really hasn't been very good the past few years, but still, they are SEC). I guess it was sometime in the 4th of that game that I realized the first two games were not illusions and that we were just not very good.
Don't get me wrong, I stand by my prediction of 7-5 to 8-4, but as a fan, I realize that I will tend to give the benefit of the doubt to my team until the evidence overwhelmingly convinces me otherwise. It sounds like I'm not invested in this team, but I am. I hope I don't feel like an idiot by the evening of the 12th.
