Any, and I mean any, other Republican president in history would have expressed sorry and horror at the loss of so many lives....to the #1 killer in America.
Instead of consoling the victims' families Trump, and many of his supporters, have tried to minimize the deaths. They have said they were old - implying their lives were lessor. They have said they don't count because they had other illnesses. As though a person with another disease getting covid-19 and dying shouldn't count. This logic is equivalent to a person with a disease dying in a car wreck, and a car company with a poor safety record blaming the disease instead of the car wreck for the hastened death.
Trump said we were lucky to lose 100,000 because had he done nothing the deaths would have been 1M or more. Again, minimizing the deaths of the 100,000 that died. However, Trump is wanting to take credit at the same time he and his supporters are refusing to wear masks, and are taking to the streets with guns because they DO NOT want to continue minimally invasive steps designed to keep more from dying because its intruding on their rights.
Many Trump supporters lack a social conscience and empathy because the man they idolize is devoid of the gene that allows him to care about others. Nearly every single statement and action is about him, and how it effects him.
Trump's reaction on a moral and caring level has been lacking and unprecedented. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan, or either of the Bush's behaving like Trump? Bush's administration ignored warnings about potential attacks that lead to 9-11 (not blaming him). He didn't go out and say It was a good thing because we could have lost more lives. He consoled the nation like a normal president.
This president is so self interested he cannot, to this day, admit he was wrong to take hydroxychloroquine, a drug that turned out to be dangerous. Instead this lacking man lied multiple times and said he is taking the drug as a preventative. He is so messed up he can't even bring himself to not recommend a potentially deadly drug. His supporters? They support him in this potentially deadly lie
Sadly so many worship this man and emulate his behavior. I don't know what happened to the party of Lincoln and Reagan.
