When Tech took on TCU yesterday, the football team had one of the biggest recruiting weekends in recent memory. There were many prospects in attendance yesterday, and we are working to get a hold of as many as possible to get their reactions.
Odessa (TX) Permian DB Desmon Smith made the quick trip from Odessa yesterday for his unofficial visit to Lubbock and very much enjoyed the visit.
“It was fun. I liked the atmosphere a lot; it was a live game,” he said. “I don’t know how to explain it. From other schools that I have visited, the football atmosphere was crazy. The fans and the players on the sideline, it was a lot different. It was really cool. We even did a Raider Power chant and it was great. We were doing it for a long time; it felt like forever.”
The Odessa Permian standout said that he sat next to Jett Duffey at the game, but everyone was so into the atmosphere that no one really had time to talk. He also claimed that the TCU running back did not catch the ball on the game winning touchdown and everyone in the stands thought they were going to score on the laterals.
Another interesting tidbit in regards to Desmon Smith is the newfound interest that the Texas Tech staff has in him. Smith, a one time Texas State commit, is back on the open market and has been hearing from Coach Curtis a lot recently. The Texas Tech coaches really like Smith's versatility.
“They told me what the situation was and how they would use me. They said that they would probably put me at safety because of my frame, but they want to be able to move me around. He said I probably wouldn’t play the same position two weeks in a row. If they needed me to line up at safety, they would line me up at safety, and if they needed me to play corner and cover a bigger receiver, they would line me up out there. He even said if they needed me in the nickel or have me line up in the box, they wouldn’t hesitate to do that too.”
Permian recently took on Lubbock Coronado and defensive coaches David Gibbs and Mike Smith were in attendance. Smith went on to record a couple tackles, a few pass break ups and even had an interception in the game. Smith's situation will be a good one to monitor in the next few months.
“No doubt they will definitely be in contact. If they offer, I will probably going to take an official so that I can get the whole experience.”

Houston (Texas) Episcopal offensive lineman and Tech commit Gio Pancotti made it to Lubbock for the TCU-Tech game over the weekend, and he was actually one of the very first prospects to make it out to the Hub City. He had a great time hanging out with QB commit Jett Duffey and the other three O-line commits, sharing his thoughts on the game and atmosphere on Saturday.
"Oh man, that atmosphere was spectacular. Last year I visited Texas about three times, I visited TCU, Baylor, visited A&M, K-State last year. I took lots of trips and visits last year, but I hadn't been to a Tech game," he said. "To see this, especially when they're hot and rolling on an amazing pace, to see the crowd, that was impressive. Of all the Texas games I've been to, it wasn't anything like this Tech game. I went to the Baylor versus TC game, same type of game in a sense that I went to here, but I don't know. The fans at Baylor were cool, but they just weren't I guess a part of the game like Tech was. At Tech, the fans were rowdy, in their face, into the game. Baylor didn't really have that. Then I went to the TCU game against K-State, and they didn't have that. The only other place that was close to the Tech game would be A&M. That's a heck of a job. I thought the atmosphere was amazing. That was awesome. One of the coolest crowd experiences I've ever witnessed."
Pancotti was obviously pretty impressed with the atmosphere, and I think it says a lot coming from a guy that's been to every major stadium in the state for a game.

Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point offensive lineman Travis Bruffy is on his way home after his visit to Lubbock over the weekend, and the Houston native had a great time. The OT went into detail, speaking on his experience at the Jones.
"It was insane. I've never been in a stadium as loud. It was even crazy outside of the stadium. The whole city is so passionate about Tech and it's a great thing to experience."
He also had a great time hanging out with the other OL commits among other visitors.
"It was great. I had already spoken with most of them over Twitter, but it was cool hanging out with them in person. I'm looking forward to playing with them."

Keller (Texas) defensive end and Texas Tech commit Houston Miller made the trip to Lubbock for the game this weekend. Overall, he was very pleased with the visit, which he graded a twelve on a scale of one to ten.
"It was all hyped up and everyone was having fun. The recruit section was getting after it. Then, watching the student section was crazy, and it was just a great atmosphere. Pre-game, we walked around and seen how much people love it. It was a real great experience and I enjoyed it" said Miller.
What were Miller's thoughts on the Red Raiders' performance?
"I thought we played great, honestly. I mean, we got after it and made some big plays. The offense was rolling on them, and the defense had times where we made our stops. We really showed that Tech is not fun to play, and that we're going to come after you."
Miller was glad to finally meet some of his fellow recruits for the first time in person. He shared his thoughts on spending the day with them.
"It was real fun. I got to meet some of the guys for the first time, and get the experience of seeing who's who." said Miller. "Being able to see how well we're going to be a family together is great."
