Recruiting Roundup

The Texas Tech coaching staff evaluated their fair share of prospects over the summer, many of them as participants in their summer camps throughout the state of Texas on their satellite tour in early June. The Red Raiders hosted a few camps in Lubbock as well, and one of the standout players that participated was Odessa (Texas) Permian defensive back Desmon Smith. The West Texas native was physically impressive at the camp, showing off his athleticism and ball skills coupled with his six-foot-three frame. The Texas Tech coaches didn't make a move then, however, deciding to wait and watch this fall as he performed throughout the first few games of his senior season. Defensive coordinator David Gibbs and his staff must have liked what they've seen so far, as it culminated in an offer on Sunday night. - See more at: https://texastech.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1810601&PT=4&PR=2#sthash.2r8TRfti.dpuf

Cibolo Steele 2017 quarterback Xavier Martin's commitment to Texas Tech in July extended the Red Raiders streak to four consecutive recruiting classes that include at least one Knight from Steele High School. Since making his pledge, Martin has been working to build the 2017 class for the Red Raiders and with the nation's top interior offensive lineman -- Frisco High School's Jack Anderson -- joining the fold on Monday night, this class looks ready to snowball into something special. - See more at: https://texastech.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1810860&PT=4&PR=2#sthash.4VX3HeNW.dpuf

The Texas Tech coaches did their homework over the past few months and decided to extend an offer to Odessa Permian defensive back Desmon Smith. The Tech offer marks offer No. 17 for the 6-foot-3 cornerback and he is very excited about the offer from the Red Raiders. "It was crazy. I'm really excited about it. I've been waiting on it for a while, so I'm really glad the offer came my way," he said. "I've been hearing from Coach Curtis. He's been talking to me a whole lot, and we really talked about what they can do with my size and my speed. He called and told me what he has in mind for me, what he likes about me, and what they want to do with me." - See more at: https://texastech.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1811395&PT=4&PR=2#sthash.h5L1ODLY.dpuf

The Red Raiders have extended offers to 2018 Brownfield quarterback Jaelyn Nolan and 2019 Helotes O'Connor offensive tackle Brannon Brown in recent weeks.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Nolan is located right down the road in Brownfield and has led the Cubs to a 5-0 record on the year and has accounted for 1,348 yards through the air and 608 yards on the ground and 27 total touchdowns through five games. Nolan is Tech's eighth offer to a 2018 recruit.
