Red Raiders Ready for Horned Frogs

•Kingsbury called Trevone Boykin the most dynamic quarterback in the country.

•Kingsbury said Gary Patterson is one of the top defensive minds in the country. "He's got them rolling right along."

•Kingsbury said he never forgot, as a former player, any of the losses he suffered as a player. He expects his players to feel the same.

•Dylan Cantrell is still "day to day" with his back issue. Kingsbury said Cantrell's back spasm issue is "lingering."

•"The clean play is what I've been most impressed by. We had more turnovers last week than I would have like, but the penalties were way down."

•Kingsbury said comparing Arkansas's defense to TCU's is like comparing apples to oranges. He called the Frogs a whole "different beast."

•Kingsbury said he felt good about how the team would handle the atmosphere in Fayetteville.

•"We talk about starting fast all the time, to come out and execute at a high level, don't have the nerves, don't be jittery."

•Kingsbury calls Mahomes unflappable. "He loves the spotlight. He loves being out there. It makes it fun to watch."

•"There won't be any let-down (Saturday against TCU)."

•Gibbs said "The truth is all three teams that we've played are all very well coached, disciplined football teams. To come through with eight (turnovers) is great."

•"(TCU's) amazing. Last time we played a spread offense we were terrible. We'll find out on Saturday."

•"We've got to slow them down, made them kick a couple field goals, get a couple turnovers, get the ball back to our offense and try to win the game."

•Gibbs said he expects more players to play this week due to TCU's offense. There wasn't as much rotation against Arkansas because of how few plays there were in the game.

•Gibbs on Trevone Boykin: "He's special. He's similar to our guy."

•OC Eric Morris - "Our drives have been pretty efficient. I think we only had nine drives last week, which is crazy -- 58 plays. Extremely efficient, I think we averaged about nine yards per play."

•Morris said he thought the last drive was the key to the game, because of how the offense was able to milk the clock.

•"Proud of the way they finished."

•"We're done talking about last year. These kids are motivated right now. There doesn't need to be anything said."

•"We have our hands full (with TCU)."

•Morris said he felt like the team's preparation has been better throughout the week this season than it was last year.

•"I think Jones Stadium will be as loud as it's been for seven or eight years for this game."

Recruiting Roundup

  • One receiver who has had increased contact with the Red Raiders lately is Lancaster's 5.7 three-star Tyrell Alexander. Alexander, a former Oklahoma State commit, has the most contact with Tennessee, Houston, and Texas Tech as well as staying in touch with the Pokes. Right now he remains open and in no hurry to make a decision, but with visits setup to Tennessee and Houston and a likely visit to Tech, his recruitment could take a turn if he finds the right fit.

  • Damarcus Fields' team is looking to navigate through district play after dropping two straight games. The three star commit has been taking full advantage of the snaps he's getting at safety. He believes that playing the position has made him an even better tackler in run support.

The 6-foot, 180-pound defender plans to focus on playing out his high school career before he schedules his official visit to Texas Tech. However, Fields does want to attend two games before Texas Tech completes conference play this November.

  • Episcopal and Giovanni Pancotti are off to a 3-1 start this season with wins over two TAPPS perennial powers -- Plano Prestonwood and Midland Christian -- and a close loss to Bishop Dunne Catholic, a school widely known for producing its share of FBS talent. The three-star tackle, who has recently emerged on other school's radars, is only in personal contact with Texas Tech and has said he will not take any official visits to other schools. Pancotti plans to attend his first ever Texas Tech game as the Red Raiders host No. 2 TCU this Saturday.

  • Texas Tech has three players from Dallas Skyline High School in its 2016 recruiting class. The first to join the fold was running back Da'Leon Ward -- who pledged in February -- and teammates Joe Wallace and Clarence Henderson came on board in August. The Skyline Trio is unofficially visiting Texas Tech this weekend, as the Red Raiders host No. 3 TCU on Saturday, and Ward plans to return for his official visit in January. Ward, who currently leads District 9-6A with 436 rushing yards and three touchdowns, stays in contact with Tech coaches Mike Jinks and Emmett Jones mostly every day. His goals for this season are to rush for more than 2,000 yards and win the state championship.
