Some minor shakeups this final week of non-con for most of the Big 12 with Kstate losing in embarrassing fashion and Kansas proving they are the real deal.
Team of the week: Kansas (again), once again the most impressive win of the conference as most teams played cupcakes or lost.
- Oklahoma (3-0 0-0, Last Week 1)- Dominated lowly Nebraska. All sides of the ball played well but they should have against a team that fired the coach this early in the season. Will play Kansas State next week who has had their number in the past.
- Oklahoma State (3-0 0-0, LW 3)- Beat Arkansas Pine Bluff 63-7 as expected. The only interesting thing about this game to me was Mike Gundy’s son passing for 2 TDS. They are off this week
- Iowa State (3-0 0-0, LW 4)- Destroyed Ohio University which doesn’t say much. Seem like a complete team but we have to wait and see how they do against Baylor next week in Ames.
- Baylor (2-1 0-0, LW 6)- Beat up in Texas State isn’t saying much but they looked good and shook off the rust from losing to BYU the week before who took an ugly loss to Oregon this week. They will try and jump Iowa State in the rankings this week.
- Texas (2-1 0-0, LW 7)- After a shaky start the longhorns turned on the jets and ended up comfortably beating the roadrunners who are a very solid team. Game plan of give it to Bijan is an effective strategy netting them 183 yards and 3TDS. Travel to Lubbock this week.
- Kansas (3-0 1-0, LW 9)- Manhandled the Coogs in Houston. The result seems to confirm that the Jayhawks are a legit team this year. Jalon Daniels may be the best QB in the conference and so far it doesn’t seem very close. Duke travels to Lawrence this week.
- Texas Tech (2-1 0-0, LW 5)- Game felt worse than the final score indicated. Offense and Special Teams had essentially no positive takeaways but at least the Defense looks like it could be one of the strongest in the Big 12. Multiple injuries plagued the Red Raiders, QB play/scheme was questionable, and Kenny Perry’s ST unit needs a come to Jesus moment. A lot of the harsh feelings from the fans would be gone if Tech beats UT in Lubbock.
- Kansas State (2-1 0-0, LW 2)- I had them ranked way too high last week, clearly. Losing at home to Tulane is pitiful and a bad look for the conference. They still can pull the Typical KState and win the Big 12 but hard to see how with horrible QB play and play calling that doesn’t use their all American RB more. Sooners up next.
- TCU (2-0 0-0, LW 8)- No game. Burn their bye week early this year. Don’t get to jump anyone while on Bye. Good storyline vs SMU next week.
- West Virginia (1-2 0-1, LW 10)- Took their pain out on a garbage Towson Tigers. Desperately needed their first win after a slow start but their loss to Kansas is looking less embarrassing. Have historic rival Virginia Tech on Thursday.
