Everyone is aware of Trump's legal issues. 80% of Trumpers and anti Trumpers have probably already assumed his guilt or innocence. Some won't change their minds even after court verdicts. We have investigations going on in …
N. Jersey for emolument violations
NY for violations involving his foundation
DC for the porn star/bunny campaign violations
Several lawsuits from other women
Charges arising from the Meuller investigations.
Forget all the above for a minute.
His most serious threat to the US may not have been any of the above. It involves putting himself in a position to be blackmailed or leveraged by the Russians. It started with his lying about his business dealings with Russia. Was it illegal to pursue those before his presidency? Nope.
He has gone from declaring during the campaign that he had no dealings at all, to if I did, it wasn't illegal. Then he sends out Guiliana to claim there was no signed letter of intent, followed by a reversal of that.
The point being that he was lying all along and what's far worse, the Russians knew it. Then you throw in the Trump Tower lies by his family. He denied knowledge of it, and maybe he's telling the truth about that, but the Russians were aware of those lies too. In essence, the Russians had enough evidence to ruin his election chances, and, threaten his family by exposing their lies to the FBI. Did they use this as a tool to get Manafort to change the Republican Party platform about Russian relations? Did they use this info to make a decision to orchestrate an effort to help elect him? Did this play a role in their hacking, or a role in giving info to Wiki? Is it unreasonable for Meuller to try and find these answers? The answer is not only no, it's vital he uses every legal maneuver he can to do so.
Trump was obviously aware they had the goods on him. Does this explain his flattering of Putin? Does it explain his fight not only against passing Russian sanctions, but his refusal to implement those sanctions for a year. What about handing over Syria to the Russians? I don't know if their leverage on him has anything to do with his actions. We don't know it didn't either. That fact that it's even a possibility should concern all Americans.
Either way, this president put our country in jeopardy, not from his business dealings, but from his and his family's lying and coverup. Same as Nixon, same as Clinton. While lying to us or pursuing his business deals was not a crime, in reality, putting himself and the US in this position is his most inexcusable action of them all.
