Aledo tight end and longtime Oklahoma commitment Jason Llewellyn was in town for an official visit this weekend.

The four-star prospect had visited Lubbock a few times to visit friends, even attending a game earlier this season, but described how the official visit was different compared to previous visits.

"This was a closer look at everything, getting to see the facilities and campus up close was really cool. We toured the locker room, the weight room and the new facilities that are being built. We got a tour of the new basketball facility and how it will be a similar structure and design for Tech's new football facilities.

"So overall, this visit was a deeper dive. I was able to see where classes would be, where the players live and what a day as a student would look like. I'm looking into Sports Journalism or Broadcasting, I would like to be a play by play guy like Tony Romo or other athletes that get into media after their football career.

"The Tech coaches did a really good job of showing us everything."

Llewellyn was able to meet with the entire Texas Tech coaching staff, and even had a meeting with head coach Joey McGuire and his parents.

"We (my Mom and Dad) met with Coach McGuire today before we left. And that was after a full day of visiting yesterday, Coach McGuire was around the whole time. We met after breakfast this morning, we all had breakfast in the press box at the stadium. He mostly talked about what he is looking to do with the offense and the tight end position. We definitely got into the X's & O's, but his biggest thing is the brand of Texas Tech football, as the toughest and most competitive team in the country.

"Coach McGuire told us that you cannot do that without a tough tight end to help block and get into the mix on offense. So that was clearly important for me to hear, and it really stuck with me.

"We met all of the assistants too, they were around us all weekend. I met Coach (Joey) Bookbinder and we had talked some when he was coaching at Baylor. I met with him and his family during the visit. I also met Coach (Kenny) Perry, the new Special Teams coach, and we talked a lot. We also met with Coach (James) Blanchard, he was around us all weekend. The part that stood out to me was that it was not just football talk, the coaches were getting to know you and your family. We were connecting and the coaches all wanted to get to know us personally."

Llewellyn has been verbally committed to the Sooners since this past February, and even had Bob Stoops and other Oklahoma coaches in town for an in-home visit this week. His entire recruiting plan changed once Lincoln Riley left for USC, but the standout prospect shared this about McGuire's approach to his recruitment over the past few weeks.

"Coach McGuire hasn't pushed me to do anything, and he keeps telling me that it is my journey and you only get to do this once. He told me to wait things out, sit back and see who Oklahoma brings in, see if I like it. I just think it speaks to his personality that he isn't pushing me for a decision on things."

Llewellyn was hosted on the visit by a former DFW prospect, Texas Tech offensive tackle Caleb Rogers.

"My player host for the weekend was Caleb (Rogers) and he is from the DFW area. That is who I was with most of the time, but I spent a lot of time around the others players too. Meeting them and talking with them was really good, and I could see myself being teammates with them. It was really cool, because we were all in one big group this weekend. The other recruits and the other hosts, we all went around and did things together.

"At Oklahoma, we had our hosts and stuff, but I felt like I connected with the players more closely at Tech this weekend."

The four-star prospect also mentioned spending time around some of the 2022 commitments on the visit.

"Jalon (Peoples) talked with me a lot. He is obviously recruiting me and wanting me to come to Tech. Again, we were all one big group, the recruits and players, so we went out to eat and the coaches showed us around all together."

When Llewellyn and I connected earlier in the week, he mentioned a potential visit to Baylor next weekend. After his official visit to Tech this weekend, he updated me on the latest.

"I'm not sure on my plan yet. Jeff Grimes is coming to see me this Tuesday for an in-home visit. Nothing is set in stone with an official visit for next weekend, we have just talked about it. I'm not sure if I will visit or not."

This goes without saying, but Llewellyn is obviously keeping tabs on the Oklahoma coaching search and what happens there.

When asked about the reports around former Southlake Carroll quarterback and Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers visiting Texas Tech today, LLewellyn shared the following...

"I don't know him personally or anything, but I have heard the reports and rumors. That would be awesome if Tech could get him."
