The coaching staff has hosted nearly 20 official and unofficial visitors over the past week. We will continue tracking down updates, but wanted to create a separate thread from the original visitor reaction thread - which includes reactions from 8 visitors.

A few quick thoughts...

-We have tried McIvor several times. I think he either hates doing interviews or is on vacation with family.

-The interview with Jackson and Carter was a combined interview, they were driving somewhere and had me on speaker phone. So the conversation went from one kid to the other, sometimes randomly, so we will try and get more info/better details soon. But either way, both kids seemed to really enjoy the visit and having them on campus is a big deal.

-Make sure to check out the updated visitors list for this week, including two official visits starting tomorrow - Ty DeArman and Simon Gonzalez - and several others coming in this Friday.

Mansfield Legacy DL duo:

The term "program changer" was thrown around when speaking about Mansfield Legacy defensive linemen Enoch Jackson and Taurean Carter this weekend.

The teammates took an official visit to the South Plains over the weekend.

From Jackson...

"It was my first time in Lubbock," Jackson said. "Taurean (Carter) had been before for a junior day. It was a great experience, we ate good and toured the entire campus. My host was Nelson (Mbanasor) and we had a great time.

"I enjoyed spending time with the Texas Tech coaches and players. I felt like part of the team."

From Carter...

"This time around it was more about the campus, what Texas Tech is really about," Carter said. "I went golfing with the coaches, to this place like Top Golf. My host was Broderick (Washington) and we talked with Dakota (Allen) and several other defensive players. It was a really cool experience.

"I can say that I learned a lot and really liked the visit. I'm going to take the rest of my visits during the season, but before October. I want to announce my decision on my father's birthday. My Mom and Dad were there with us and they both loved it, they fell in love with Texas Tech."

From both...

"I mostly talk with Coach Jamison and Coach Kingsbury from Texas Tech. I talk with Coach Kingsbury on the phone probably once a week or once every other week."

Permian LB talks Tech offer, recaps recent visit:

The coaches hosted a trio of talented prospects from Odessa Permian on campus yesterday, including a new linebacker target - Matt Jones.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect camped with the Red Raiders over the weekend and earned an offer from the coaching staff.

"I have been talking with the Texas Tech coaches for a while," Jones said. "I went to the junior day a while back and they have kept in touch with me. The coaches had come by the school earlier this spring for a practice and that is when they offered Landon (Peterson) and Peyton (Powell).

"They told me that my offer was coming, so I attended the camp and they offered me after that. I'm not certain, but either Coach Gibbs wanted me watch me in person or offer me in person."

Jones did receive the offer in person and shared more from his conversation with the coaches.

"I know that Coach Jamison loves my first step out of my stance, the physicality I bring and the way I play," Jones said. "They want me to rush off the end and move me around at linebacker, into various coverage and looks. It was still at the camp and they had some official visitors in town, so I mostly worked on the side and did some drills for Coach Jamison.

"That was Saturday and the coaches asked me to come back on Sunday. I worked out for them on Saturday, then learned about the offer on Sunday. I actually with Coach Kingsbury one on one too. He wants me to become a Red Raider, told me that he liked the way I play and really wants that on his team."

Jones made the trip back to Odessa that Sunday evening, then got back in the car with his teammates for a return trip on Monday.

"I had already taken a tour of the facilities and campus during the junior day, so I had pretty much seen everything before," Jones said. "We did get a tour of everything though - the training facilities, locker rooms, the stadium and a campus tour. We also watched the players go through a work out and learned more about the strength program.

"The atmosphere was great, all of the coaches were good people and very chill. It is close to home, felt similar to Odessa and I felt like I was at home."

Jones currently holds nine offers and the Red Raiders are battling another Big 12 program for his services.

"I would say the main schools in the mix are Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas State, Nevada and Illinois," Jones said. "The communication with Illinois is off and on, but I have an official visit to Nevada this weekend and I have taken an unofficial visit to Baylor this off-season. I don't have any other visits scheduled right now, but my goal is to make a decision sometime this summer and before my senior season."

Permian ATH recaps Tech unofficial:

Odessa Permian athlete Peyton Powell was a popular guy on the recruiting trail this spring, adding nearly 20 total offers this off-season alone.

The standout prospect joined his teammates - Landon Peterson and Matt Jones - for an unofficial visit to the South Plains this Monday.

"It was great, all of the coaches were with us the whole time," Powell said. "They took us on a tour and we went through the nutrition area and the academic support center. We ate lunch and hung out with the coaches too. Coach McGuire is our area recruiter and the coach we speak with the most, but Coach Kingsbury was involved on Monday.

"It was my first time meeting him. They definitely want me on offense and he just stressed that he would find a way to get the ball into my hands."

Powell also joined new offensive coordinator Kevin Johns for a film review on how he could fit into the Texas Tech offense.

"Coach Johns took me into the room and we watched film together," Powell said. "We watched some quarterback film and receiver film. The coaches see me playing receiver, but we also talked about being able to use my quarterback experience on certain plays or looks. He mostly showed me highlights from the receiver positions and talked about the quarterback's role on each play.

"I grew up in Midland and playing in the Texas Tech offense has always been a dream for me. That is really what the coaches were letting me know during the visit. They said that I could stay close to home, become a hometown hero. So really no matter who offers, Texas Tech will always be in the mix for me."

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound prospect is planning to announce a decision before the season and will take a few official visits this month.

"I have a few visits scheduled now," Powell said. "I'm taking an official to Virginia this weekend and then I'm going to Ohio State the next weekend. I want to take as many visits as I can before committing. I'm going to commit before my senior season and have plenty of time to see everything before then."

Powell added an offer from TCU today and should be scheduling a visit to Fort Worth sometime soon.
