The SEC recently imposed sanctions on LSU for violations stemming from contact with a commitment who signed a financial aid agreement with the Tigers but backed out of his commitment and eventually signed with Alabama. Programs can have unlimited contact with prospects who sign financial aid agreements but the SEC rule subjects programs to penalties retroactively if the prospect ends up signing a National Letter of Intent with another team.
LSU has been banned from signing early enrollees for two years and has lost 10 percent of its evaluation days as a result of this violation.
This is, obviously, a situation similar to what Texas Tech went through with Jarrett Stidham during the 2015 recruiting cycle and several have asked if the Red Raiders would be subject to any sort of penalties.
Texas Tech's Blayne Beal told me just a few minutes ago that the university did submit a violation report that was "technical in nature" but "Texas Tech did not self-impose penalties and does not believe any penalties are appropriate given the facts and circumstances."
