i apologize for not updating before now (wife has been sick, I started back to classes in my master’s program, got a promotion at work and hella busy...) but all that aside, you guys stepped up big-time for a first-generation college student whose crappy old laptop died right before classes started.
I was hoping somebody would sell me a good used laptop for cheap, but you RRS folks went to bat and ended up donating $795 for a new one. We got a kick-ass Lenovo (ultralight but powerful, fast and feature-packed), originally $879, on sale for $829 and then Best Buy student discount of $100 marked down to $729. With tax it came out to $790, and I chipped in the extra for a wireless mouse and good laptop backpack. This feels like an amazing machine — beats the crap out of my work laptop.
So here is Juan with his laptop (Mentor Tech privacy guidelines dictate I blur out his face). He’s writing out a thank-you note that i’ll Post soon.
Thanks again for making a difference — I’m working with him and he seems to be doing well in classes so far. He has a job now on campus and said he wants to pay everybody back, but I spoke for y’all and told him to pay it forward some day.
Thanks again, everybody.
