Texas Tech got the victory this evening over West Virginia, 2-1. While the victory on Thursday night was big, the real news happened before the game when head coach Tim Tadlock received a contract extension through 2022.
Obviously after the game, Tadlock would have rather talked more about Moseley getting the save or Stephen Smith's great put out at the plate from right field which was the real game changer, or anything else related to the game at hand (he talked about all those things, sure) but we didn't let him leave the media room without asking about his new extension as well...
Here are Tadlock's thoughts on the extension. He was pretty emotional, as emotional as I've seen, when talking about what took place earlier today.
“Well the simplest thing was, we didn’t have to talk about it long. All they had to do was ask. (Long pause to gather thoughts. Obviously emotional). Here’s the thing, I’m not good at reflecting. I want to say this, we want to keep this thing moving in the right direction. Like I said, it didn’t take long. I think all of us, everybody in that dugout, we know we have something special here and want to keep it moving down the right path.”
How much has the athletic department’s investment in the baseball program make it that much easier to want to be here and make it an easy decision?
“Well, Lubbock makes it easy to be here and obviously the people you work with and the people around you. All those things are definitely in the equation. I think everybody in the room loves Lubbock, Texas and we are no different. My family is no different, my staff is no different. Again, it is very easy to get distracted when you start thinking about different things this time of year. Our guys deal with the draft and all kinds of things. We can deal with things like y’all are talking about, but it is very comforting to know that we can get better every day and keep this thing moving the right way.”
There y'all have it, folks.
