For the last 5 years only two guys have started games at 1B for Tech - Gutierrez for 4 years and Hargrove for all of this year. I honestly have no idea who would play first if Hargrove couldn't go. Obviously this will be addressed in the offseason, but since we're all crazy with baseball fever I thought I'd start solving next year's problems now.
My pick, John McMillon. For his sake and his future in baseball I think he needs to focus 100% on just pitching (no batting) or 100% on fielding and hitting. In my uneducated opinion, I think he should make the move to first. There will only be three positions we'll be looking to fill next year (SS, RF, and 1B) and McMillon would be a great pick for two of them. He certainly has the arm strength to play RF, but we are pretty deep in the OF and Connor Beck will likely get a look at RF too.
I spoke with a scout earlier this season and he said he'd like to see McMillon focus 100% on pitching or hitting, but not both, because every minute he spends on pitching is a minute he isn't spending on hitting and vice versa.
Just my thinking. Feel free to chime in with your replacements for SS and RF too (I might move M Davis over to SS and start Klein at 2B).
