... Alan Bowman was terrible today. He wasn't helped at all by his offensive line but this result falls on his shoulders more than any other player. Bowman melted down during the fourth quarter in a way that we haven't seen a Texas Tech QB melt down in a long time. He was missing easy, layup throws, leaving the pocket early, throwing off his back foot, throwing into coverage, etc. This was beyond surprising to me.

... The Red Raider run game was non-existent, both in terms of production and opportunities. The longest run on the day from a Texas Tech running back was seven yards and the team averaged a brutal 1.3 yards per carry. Despite the lack of production, I'm still surprised the Red Raiders went away from it as much as they did in the second half -- six rushing attempts in the third quarter, just three in the fourth. I'd understand that more if Iowa State was well in front, but this was a one-score game until the Cyclones scored with 2:25 left.

... Brutal game from the offensive line. Not sure what else needs to be said there.

... Texas Tech had two drives on the day span more than 35 yards.

... The Red Raiders looked just as flummoxed by the Cyclones' defense today as they did last year and two years ago. Players have changed on both sides, schemes have been tweaked on both sides, but the results have largely been the same. That's pretty disappointing considering the coaching changes on that side of the ball for the Red Raiders over the offseason.

... Texas Tech's offense is responsible for 40 points in the team's last three games against Iowa State. Not good enough.

... Iowa State has forced three turnovers in each of its last three games against the Red Raiders.

... Texas Tech's defense played well enough to win today. David Montgomery got a very quiet 125 yards. Brock Purdy certainly had a much, much, much, much better game than his counterpart in Red and Black but he didn't do to the Red Raiders what he did to Oklahoma State and West Virginia.

... I'm guessing officiating will got a lot of attention in the next 48 hours or so. I don't think it was great - the roughing call on Joe Wallace was bad, not sure what he was supposed to do in that situation - but I don't think it's why Texas Tech lost.

... Dominic Panazzolo was tremendous today. Clayton Hatfield connected on his lone FG attempt of the game and all of his PATs. Thomas Leggett's blocked punt was a gigantic momentum boost for Texas Tech early in this game. The Red Raider special teams, outside of the return game, today were a definite highlight.

... I continue to be puzzled by Texas Tech's choices in the return game. De'Quan Bowman is good for at least one excruciatingly clear poor decision a game, but there hasn't been any indication publicly from Kliff Kingsbury that there's any thought of replacing him. The Red Raiders didn't lose the game today because of anything that happened in the kick return game, but I view this as an unnecessary risk.

... We'll find out tonight or early tomorrow what time Texas Tech's game against Oklahoma will kick next Saturday. I would sure think the 2:30 window is the most likely at this point.

... Kingsbury is now 28-5 at Texas Tech when leading at the half.
