I am still "sports sad" beyond all measure about the loss. However, I was thinking about my expectations and hopes going into the season, and this interesting statistic occurred to me:
Across our first three common opponents from last year (UTEP, Arkansas and TCU), we improved our final score differential by +43 points, +32 points and +52 points. That is probably very unusual, and highlights how much better our offense is this year. Although they are unlikely to maintain such an extreme differential during the entire season, it does suggest many more wins to come if they can even maintain half of that pace.
Going into this season, all I really wanted was improvement. Well, I have certainly gotten what I wanted...
