Man, yesterday felt so damn good. Steamrolling a non-Kansas conference opponent was so refreshing to watch.
After the win, Tech’s in a great spot with five to play this season and there was plenty to like about yesterday’s win.
Liked:
Behren & the tempo offense:
If Behren Morton isn’t the starting quarterback moving forward, I have questions for this coaching staff.
Morton looked excellent once again, showing excellent zip on the football but the biggest thing that stood out to me was his ability to maneuver the pocket and scramble or throw the ball away.
He really helped the offensive line yesterday with that ability but the offense’s tempo with Behren is excellent and it killed the West Virginia defense that couldn’t substitute.
Behren has me pumped for the future and the present, fun times ahead.
Xavier White’s touchdown and another big day:
Man, this touchdown was nuts. Behren tossed an excellent ball, what I think was his best of the day, and Xavier had to work to get to the house.
Xavier had another excellent game with over 100 yards receiving with 82 yards of YAC and has certainly solidified his name into the rotation when Myles Price returns, likely next week.
The Take Four Defense:
They finally did it, the defense created turnovers. In my “bold predictions” from last week, I said Tech would finish with a positive turnover differential in the final six games of the schedule and they’re off to a great start after yesterday.
There was a ton of good from the defense and not much to be worried about. Rayshad and Malik were excellent in the secondary once again and Tech did a great job making JT Daniels look, to put it bluntly, awful. (CC. @4O9to8O6&Back)
Muddy’s Breakout:
Marquis Waters had an excellent game, he was all over the field and was tied for the lead in tackles with seven.
Three of those tackles went for loss in what was his best game of the season to this point. If he can get going, this defense can get even better, which is extremely exciting.
Matt Keeler and the O-Line:
I thought Keeler answered the bell pretty well for the injured Monroe Mills. I was somewhat surprised by the lack of Ty Buchanan, but Keeler did well.
The offensive line played well, despite a few miscues that have become somewhat of a regularity. Whether that’s attributed to the tempo that Behren brings, Behren’s pocket presence, or an improvement from the group itself, any better this group can get means good things for the Red Raiders.
Disliked:
McGuire’s clock management at the end of the 1st half:
Coach spoke about this post game, blaming himself, but the possession that ended with 1:32 in the second quarter was a massive mismanage.
An incompletion on 3rd & 15 gave JT Daniels and the Mountaineers the ball with plenty of time to score. With a rush, you are able to drain the clock before the punt, but in the end it was a non-factor.
Caleb Rogers getting hit in the face by the ball on a screen:
I got a chuckle out of this play, don’t really remember when it happened but it was a screen intended for Brooks and it hit Rogers in the face.
Good thing this was a blowout because it would’ve been quite a mess if it truly mattered.
