Remember when Swoopes and company won it all, and sheer pandaleerium broke out on campus? Or in '08 when you knew you had a chance to win every single game, and were ranked in the top 5 at one point. Crabtree and Harrell each had a Heisman campaign.

Back in the early '90s, when the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls, Mike Rhiner of the ticket said that "these are the good old days." He warned not to look past a single minute of the glory of it, and to make the most of how it feels, because it won't last. He was right. It wasn't long until everything fell apart at the top, and now you have to look back to the good ol' days if you're a Cowboys fan.

I'm not saying that this isn't just the beginning of a long, program changing run. We may, in fact, be in the midst of a transition as a school to the next level because of Kirby Hocutt. Track and baseball have been in elite status for a few years now, and it is clear that Beard has created a monster on the South Plains. I hope he stays for another 20 yrs and creates the next Duke, or Kansas right where he is. Regardless, I will be savoring every single moment.
