There has been so much negative back and forth recently on this board about football, I just want to put some things out there to be optimistic about. I have been re-watching the games on youtube (highlights at least) and this what I've taken away...
1. Bowman/McIvor will win you at least two more games than Duffey did last year. I was the guy who really wanted to see Duffey and I thought he played well given the situation and the coaches obviously not liking him. That being said he was predictable, held the ball to long, stared down receivers, and did not check down (or run for some reason). Bowman and McIvor both have shown the ability to do all of those thing correctly and getting it to our stud WR/RB's in space and not just on deep throws will get us in games earlier and keep us ahead.
2. Segway into WR/RB... we have some serious skill here. Thompson and the Bama transfer are going to be a great 1-2 punch. And as for our WR, I mean... Vasher/Ezukanma/Rigdon are really good. Vasher and Ezukanama will play on Sundays. Factor in Mannix/Polk (who will contribute)/Carter and it gets salty. Not to mention Koontz will be a solid TE for us Blocking and receiving.
3.Our Defense is coming along. We lose Coleman/Brooks/Washington but we have some real players behind them. Mostly (if he can stay healthy) I am excited to see Monroe back at safety. Coleman was a ball hawk in zone but he and Leggett got beat a lot. Monroe will bring much needed skill and LSU defense state of mind to that backfield. I'm also a huge fan of our LB and DL depth, and we have some interesting pieces to move around the front 7.
4. Special Teams... It's been a while since we could say this, but we arguably have the best in the conference. Like it or not a win is a win, and these guys will win us some close games.
Hope this adds a little sunshine to how gloomy is been on here, and for what its worth I like what Wells is doing. If Yost's offense takes the next step as it historically does in year 2 we will start faster and put up more points. That along with our defense just being better coached will lead us into 7 plus win territory.
