PREVIEW: Red Raiders to host Omaha on Tuesday​

LUBBOCK, Texas – Two home games during Thanksgiving week begins for Texas Tech by hosting Omaha at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the United Supermarkets Arena.

The Red Raiders (4-0) are coming off an 84-62 neutral-court win over Incarnate Word last Saturday in South Padre Island, while the Mavericks (1-3) fell at Montana, 68-47, in a Big Sky/Summit League Challenge matchup. Tech is currently 3-0 at home under head coach Mark Adams and will also host Lamar at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the USA.

Terrence Shannon, Jr. made his return to the lineup in the win over UIW, going for 16 points and matching a career-high with six assists. Kevin McCullar led the team with 17 points by hitting a single-game high four 3-pointers, Adonis Arms led the bench with 12 points and Daniel Batcho contributed a team-high eight rebounds in 11 minutes of play. Tech finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds and is currently third in the nation with 18.7 offensive rebounds per game and are fifth with a plus-17 rebounding advantage over its four opponents. Kenpom.com currently has the Red Raiders at No. 15 overall and in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Both games this week will be streamed on ESPN+ and carried on the Texas Tech Sports Network. John Harris and Chris Level will have the television call, while Geoff Haxton and Clark Lammert are on the radio side of the coverage. Fans can follow the team through social media @TexasTechMBB.

RANKINGS: Texas Tech is receiving votes in the Associated Press and USA TODAY Coaches Poll, but remains unranked this season after spending the entire 2020-21 season in the rankings for the first time in program history. TTU was as high as No. 7 last season and finished the year at No. 21. While not in the polls, the Red Raiders are currently No. 12 in the Kenpom.com ranking and No. 8 in the site's adjusted defensive efficiency ranking. Over the past four years Tech has ranked in the KENPOM.COM: Adjusted defensive efficiency… No. 17 (2021), No. 9 (2020), No. 1 (2019).

STAT RANKINGS: It's early and games played/opponents vary throughout the NCAA, but let's have some fun with national stat rankings. With a 4-0 record, TTU is tied for the nation's best won-lost percentage along with 57 other teams. Mylik Wilson is fifth in the nation with a 8.5 assist-to-turnover ratio with 17 assists and only two turnovers, while Bryson Williams is 15th nationally with a 71.1 shooting percentage and Marcus Santos-Silva is second in the Big 12 with 3.25 offensive rebounds per game. Along with being top-5 nationally in offensive rebounding and rebounding margin, Tech is currently second in the Big 12 in scoring margin (+24.5) and 60 free throws made.

RED RAIDER REPORT: Williams leads Tech with 16.5 points per game and is tops in the Big 12 by shooting 71.1 percent (27-for-38) from the field this season. A super senior from Fresno, California, Williams scored a season-high 22 points in the opener against North Florida on 9-for-11 shooting and is coming off a game against UIW where he scored 10 points – all coming in the second half. Williams has scored 1,693 points and has 769 rebounds through 125 games in his career (two seasons at Fresno, two at UTEP). He is the only Red Raider to score in double figures in each of the four games played. McCullar led Tech with his 17 points against UIW where he set a new single-game high by knocking down four 3-pointers (4 of 6). McCullar leads the Red Raiders with 6.3 rebounds per game this season with a season-high of nine against Grambling where he also established a new career-high with 24 points. In his fourth season at Tech, McCullar is the only player who was on the Final Four team where he was a redshirt. He has now played in 53 games (29 starts) and has 443 points and 243 career points.

Shannon was held out of the opening three games of the season as a review of his NBA Draft process was being evaluated. He opened the season with 16 points, including scoring the first five points against UIW, along with matching his career-high with six assists. He also had six assists in a win at Iowa State last season. A junior from Chicago, Shannon is on the preseason watch lists for Wooden, Naismith Trophy and West awards and was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. He was an All-Big 12 Third Team selection last year as a sophomore after averaging 12.9 points per game. Shannon will make his home debut on Tuesday night and comes into the game with 660 career points through 58 games.

Davion Warren averaged 21.2 points per game last season at Hampton University which as the 13th most in the nation and has started his career at Tech by averaging 14.3 points through the first four games. A Buffalo native who is in a super senior season, Warren scored a season-high 19 points in the win over Grambling in the second game of the season and had 15 against PVAMU. He was held to nine points against UIW for his first single-digit scoring game at Tech where he is shooting 64.7 percent (22 of 34) from the field. Starting his career at Olney Central College, Warren is now in his third season at the NCAA level after two years at Hampton. He comes into Tuesday's game having scored 934 points through 63 games in the NCAA. Obanor has joined Warren in the starting lineup through the four games this season and is averaging 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. A senior who transferred from Oral Roberts, Obanor has posted 30 double-doubles, 1,346 points and 703 rebounds through 90 collegiate games. He had a season-high 17 points in the season opener against North Florida where he was 3-for-5 on 3-pointers. Obanor had six rebounds and six points against UIW.

Santos-Silva has 13 offensive rebounds after having four more in the win over UIW to go along with six points. He is averaging 3.8 rebounds and 6.3 points per game in his super senior season and second year at Tech. A forward from Massachusetts who played three seasons at VCU, he has compiled 1,094 points and 821 rebounds through 130 career games. Adonis Arms is coming off a season-high 12 points against UIW where he was 5-for-9 from the field, including a pair of fastbreak dunks. A super senior from Milwaukee, Arms is at his four school after starting his career at Mesa Community College, Northwest Nazarene and Winthrop. He is currently averaging 7.3 points per game to lead Tech reserves. Wilson started the first three games of the season before playing as a reserve on Saturday against UIW. He leads the team with 17 assists with only two turnovers through 89 minutes of play on the court. A Louisiana native, Wilson is averaging 4.0 points and 2.0 steals per game to go along with his assists. He had two assists and two steals against UIW.

Daniel Batcho led Tech with eight rebounds in the win over UIW and also added eight points – both career-highs and all coming in the second half. A Paris, France native, Batcho did not play in the first half of the game before coming in to make two shots and going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. He started his career at the University of Arizona last season where he redshirted. Batcho has four years of eligibility and is currently averaging 2.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Clarence Nadolny made his season debut after offseason hip surgery and led the team with three steals against UIW. A junior from France, Nadolny did not score in the game but established his new career-high with the three steals for the Red Raiders who had 14 steals in the game.

OMAHA MAVERICKS (1-3): The Mavericks will be playing their fourth straight road game when they take on the Red Raiders in Lubbock and are coming off a 68-47 loss at Montana on Saturday night. Omaha opened its season with a 67-57 win over Hastings for its only win of the season before falling in road games against Ball State, Kansas State and Montana. The program went 5-20 overall and 3-11 in Summit League play last season. Kyle Luedtke leads Omaha with 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with a season-high 16 points against Kansas State where he was 4-for-8 on 3-pointers. Felix Lemetti and Nick Ferrarini led the Mavs with 10 points each against Montana, while Luedtke went for nine points and six rebounds. Frankie Fidler led Omaha with 15 points in its opener against Hastings and comes into this week at 7.5 points per game. The Mavs are shooting 38.3 percent from the field as a team and are 28-for-80 (35.0 percent) on 3-pointers.

Omaha closes out a five-game road trip by playing at No. 3 Purdue at 1 p.m. on Friday in West Lafayette, Indiana.

UP NEXT: Texas Tech will play its first true road game of the season against Providence College on Wednesday, Dec. 1 in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle in Rhode Island. Tech is 0-1 against Providence College with the only other matchup coming in Hawaii in 1977. The game against the Friars (4-0) comes after the pair of Thanksgiving week home games against Omaha and Lamar. The Red Raiders will then play No. 15 Tennessee at the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in New York.
