LUBBOCK, Texas
-- The Texas Tech men's golf team will play its second tournament of the 2015-16 season this weekend, the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club, Sept. 18-20.

Olympia Fields is home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.

However, not only is the course strong, but the competition is as well. Tech is one of 12 out of the 15 teams in the field to have received votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll, including the host, No. 1 Illinois.

“We are really excited about playing Olympia Fields,” Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands said. “They just hosted the U.S. Amateur in August, and the golf course will be a great test for our guys. We are excited to compete against the nation’s best teams on a former U.S. Open golf course. This is one of the best events of the year, and we are honored to have the opportunity to play.”

The Red Raiders tee off at 10:30 am CT on Friday in nine-minute increments, starting with Hayden Springer. He will be followed by Hurly Long (10:39), Henry Todd (10:48), Ivan Ramirez (10:57), and Hannes Ronneblad (11:06).

Two weeks ago at the Carmel Cup, Tech shot 19-over as a team, finishing fifth, above Arkansas, Ohio State and TCU, all of which received votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Each team participating in the tournament was either ranked or receiving votes in the poll.

A year after finishing third as an individual in the tournament, Ronneblad returned to the top of the leaderboard, posting a score of 2-under (74-69-71--214) for the weekend, which tied for first overall. However, he fell by one stroke on the first playoff hole to Georgia's Greyson Sigg.

Ronneblad was one of eight players to post multiple rounds under 72, which is par for the prestigious 6,828-yard course at Pebble Beach. Ronneblad also finished tied for the second most birdies over the weekend, with 14.

Long (74-71-75--220, 23rd place), Springer (78-70-75--223, 31st place) and sophomore Wes Artac (79-74-75--228, 40th place) all carded top-40 finishes to round out the team scores for the Red Raiders.

Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app. Tournament play will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
