UPDATE: UL head coach Mark Hudspeth has confirmed the departure of Whitt to The Advertiser's Tim Buckley in Louisiana.

I'm hearing strong, strong indications that Louisiana-Lafayette head strength and conditioning coach Rusty Whitt is a candidate to join Kliff Kingsbury's staff and fill the vacancy left by Chad Dennis' dismissal.

Whitt has been with the Ragin' Cajuns for the past six seasons. He actually began his strength and conditioning career in the 1990s -- he was named Sam Houston State's head strength coach in 1998 -- but put that to the side in 2003 when he began serving in the United States Army Special Forces. He was in the Army for more than five years, including a deployment to Iraq.

Whitt received his bachelor's from Abilene Christian in 1994 and his master's from Texas in 1997.

More as we know it.
