Here are our TV ratings this season so far. Source is linked below.
The bad: These aren't terrible numbers but viewership is way below what some of the other schools can draw on a given Saturday. Some of that comes down timeslot and channel the game is playing on but Purdue and Syracuse were on ESPN2 in the noon timeslot and they pulled in 1.2 million viewers and a .64 rating. They were up against OU Vs. Nebraska. These have to improve if we ever want to be considered for realignment in the future.
The good: I am confident these numbers will improve if we start to win and put a better product on the field. We have to build a bigger national brand and I think Joey can get us there. Furthermore, it's impressive that this many people still watch us despite the decade of suck we have had. For example, Baylor is a good team with recent success and even though they were only playing Texas State, I would expect a P5 program to pull in better numbers than 221k viewers with a .12 rating on FS1. I think we have value for the big networks but it hasn't been fully realized.
- Week 1 vs. Murray State: n/a (I don't have numbers for ESPN+)
- Week 2 vs. Houston: 633k viewers / .32 rating / 3PM EST / FS1
- Week 3 at NC State: 747k viewers / .39 rating / 7PM EST / ESPN2
