LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech University Athletics officials announced a $1 million gift from PlainsCapital Bank supporting The Campaign for Fearless Champions on Friday. The gift will support construction of the planned Sports Performance Center, which will house the new indoor track and indoor football practice facilities.
“PlainsCapital Bank is an outstanding partner and long-time friend of Texas Tech Athletics,” said Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics. “Their sustained philanthropic support has been an important part of our past success and we appreciate their continued commitment to the future of our athletic programs.”
PlainsCapital Bank is the fifth-largest bank in Texas based on deposit market share. They have a statewide presence with more than 60 locations in markets such as Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio.

The new Sports Performance Center will replace the Athletic Training Center, the existing air-supported structure south of Jones AT&T Stadium nicknamed ‘The Bubble.’The building will house a 200-meter indoor, banked track with seating for approximately 2000 spectators and will enable Texas Tech University to host indoor track competitions. Plans for the new facility also include an indoor football practice facility and additional spaces for a strength and conditioning center, equipment facilities and a sports medicine and nutrition center.

Announced last August, The Campaign for Fearless Champions is part of Hocutt’s bold vision for the future growth of Texas Tech athletic teams. The campaign will enhance athletic facilities, invest in scholarship endowments and grow the Fearless Champions Leadership Academy.

Gifts to The Campaign for Fearless Champions have already funded 10 of the 25 planned facilities improvements. In recent weeks, crews completed installation of new seats at Jones AT&T Stadium in time for the 2015 football season. Work continues on new department offices currently being constructed on the ground floor of the stadium’s east side building and renovations remain underway at United Supermarkets Arena which will result in significant improvements to basketball and volleyball team facilities.
