Cubs starter, John Lackey, was a pitcher and position player on the 1999 NJCAA World Series championship team that Tadlock coached. Lackey was a first baseman at UTA as a freshman, but learned to pitch while playing in the Kansas Jayhawk Summer League after that season. He then transferred to Grayson County College in 1998, to play in the 1999 season. Tadlock was the head coach. at GCC from 1997 to 2005 and his team won the NJCAA World Series championship in 1999 and 2000. On the 1999 team, Lackey had a 10-3 record with a 4.23 ERA. He also hit .428 with 15 home runs and 81 RBIs. In the WS, Lackey had eight hits, seven RBIs, and 2 HRs. After the season, Lackey was selected in the second round by the Angels.

I knew Tadlock was very successful at GCC, but did not realize how successful. He was 435-127 with five trips to the NJCAA WS, winning two national championships.
