Link: Stevenson visiting Lubbock this weekend
For those wondering, his name is pronounced Nigh-Eem.
From what I've been able to gather on Stevenson, it sounds like he's the kind of scorer the Red Raiders really need to add to the mix. Can shoot threes, can drive to the basket, can put it in from the left and right side with both hands, can hit it off the glass, and can dunk. Great finisher is what I've heard.
He's also six-six, and has been playing in a motion offense similar to what Coach Beard will run here at Tech.
He's a great fit, and Coach Beard has been after him pretty hard since he was at Little Rock.
Also worth noting that Kansas was going to offer him, and he would've been a Jayhawk, had they not gotten the number one player in the country, Josh Jackson.
Sounds like Tech and Oregon are the two big parties at play. Sounds like Tech is close to getting him, though.
We'll keep you guys posted as we hear more.

UPDATE (12:08 pm):
We were able to speak with Niem this morning, and he spoke with us about both his relationship with Coach Beard and his upcoming visit this weekend.
He and Coach Beard have both become very close, and Stevenson feels he's very relatable.
"I've been talking to Coach Beard a long time. I love how he's a normal guy like me, and he's a guy I'd love to play for."
As for what he can do for Tech, Stevenson is also aware that the Red Raiders lost a ton of offensive production, something that certainly appeals to him as a scorer.
"I know they lost their two leading scorers in Gotcher and Williams, and honestly I'm just looking for a place where I can go and score the basketball."
Stevenson has an end of year basketball banquet today, but he'll be heading out to Lubbock after that.
"We have an (end of year) basketball banquet today, and then I'll be heading out there tonight. I'm just looking for a good time, and I want to see what it's all about."
So, that's where things sit. It's also worth noting that it sounds like that Oregon trip is more tentative than first realized, which may also indicate that the Red Raiders are in really good shape here.
I would also expect that they'll likely take Stevenson out to the baseball game tonight, which should be a great atmosphere for him to experience with both a blackout and a sellout on tap.
To add to that, I'm not sure when his visit will end, but we're hearing that Coach Beard may throw out the first pitch on Sunday as well, which would be something else cool for him to see if he's around that long.

UPDATE (1:49, Sun.):
From what we've heard, it sounds like his visit is going very well. His mother is on the trip as well,m and she's liked it a lot, too.
Worth noting that he's at the baseball game this afternoon, and Coach Beard just happens to be throwing out the first pitch.
Just wanted to share a quick update.

Have heard his visit went really well. I think Tech is in very, very, very good position with him after his trip. More as we know it.
