For those who wrote off new Texas Tech softball coach Adrian Gregory based on the first two Big 12 series this season, perhaps you should be more patient next time and see how things play out.
Tech played OU in the first conference series and were blown out in three games. OU is ranked 5th in the latest USA Today poll. The Sooners have lost 1 conference game this season to Baylor.
Tech lost 3 to Baylor in the next series but the last game was a 5-6 loss in extra innings. Baylor is 17th in the USA Today poll and second in the Big 12.
Tech won 2 of 3 games against Kansas. Tech perhaps should have won the other game losing 11-9 in extra innings.
Now Tech swept OSU this weekend at Stillwater.
Tech is 5-7 with series against Texas and Iowa State remaining. Last year Tech was 8-10 in the Big 12. So if they split the last six games they finish with the same conference record as last season. Iowa State is not a good team but the Raiders must travel to Iowa State. Texas is not ranked but they are not far behind Baylor. So a 3-3 record in the last six won't be easy.
If this team can finish with the same conference record they did last year with as much talent that transferred out and was injured, then I'd say Gregory did a good job her first season.
I'll be patient and see how she recruits going forward.
