So just switched to iPhone, need a little help

I've set up my RRS email on my iPhone through POP (for whatever reason, IMAP doesn't work) and it's showing that I have 25,000-plus unread messages.

Anyone know of some kind of fix for this short of refreshing my email a ton and marking them all as read?
