Now that this separation fiasco is temporarily resolved he better get something done on this tariff crap. His statement that he'll bump up China's to $400 billion reminds me of a kid who says step over that line, then knock, off this chip, then... Did we need to make some changes to help reduce our trade deficit? Yes. But once again, he jumps in on his own. He now has both allies ( EU, Canada, Mexico, etc) and foes (Russia and China) as well as other countries like India responding with their own tariffs. We'd win any one on one battle in a trade war, but now the entire world is beginning to unite. We could've used our economic might to unite them all to fight a common enemy like China who was screwing everyone. But he's so arrogant he attacks the world. This can snowball quickly and has already started with a world angered by his climate accord withdrawal, embassy move, and Iranian withdrawal, etc.
The US has international allies, Trump doesn't. If this goes much farther it will definitely slow the economy. His tax plan was a temporary stimulus plan based on unrealistic growth rates and spending cuts that weren't going to be achieved. He's already blown up the deficit. If this economy slows it will hit like a nuclear bomb. And we have no more room for additional deficit funding. Does he expect the same world leaders he's criticized and ridiculed to jump in and help us? I think not. Does he believe that bankruptcy for the US is an option like his companies? Noone will win in a major trade war, especially without an ally.
