Head Coaches Hired During AD Tenures
Frank Solich - Gotta give credit where its due, this was a good hire for that program. Kirby's first hire as an AD. Now, to the hirings following Solich:
Randy Shannon - Hired and fired Randy. Randy had never been a Head Coach before Kirby hired him and has never been hired as a College Head Coach again. By anybody.
Al Golden - Al had no P5 head coaching experience prior to Kirby hiring him. Al was fired by his Kirby's AD successor 4 seasons later. Al was never hired as a College Head Coach again. By anybody.
Tommy Tuberville (prob more a Hance hire) - might have to objectively lay this on Hance but anyways Tuberville was a bum here and a bum at non-P5 Cincinnati.
Kliff Kingsbury - KK had no prior Head Coaching experience of any kind prior to Kirby hiring him.
Matt Wells - Wells had no P5 head coaching experience prior to Kirby hiring him. In the 2 years following his firing, Wells has not been hired as a Head Coach for any other college job. By anybody.
Joey McGuire - Joey had no College head coaching experience prior to Kirby Hiring him.
I'll let you all discern what you want to about this hiring track record and fun facts.
Wanna be 6-6 into perpetuity with all the fun and hype and politicking, keep Kirby around.
Want to give yourself a legitimate chance at a competent football program, gotta cut the head off the snake.
