I was going to do this tomorrow (today) at work, but I can't sleep so I might as well do it now. I watched at least part of most of these games, all of some. I know a little about football.
In alphabetical order:
Baylor
PC: Baylor ran a track meet against Lamar and put up a lot of points. Their defense struggled noticeably, and if the talent gap wasn't so cavernous, and Lamar's offense actually had something resembling a pulse, Baylor probably ends up losing that game. Seth Russell seems to make very poor decisions at times, especially under pressure, which doesn't bode well for him in Big 12 play.
Non-PC: Seth Russell seems like he sucks, and Baylor's defense is terrible. Phil Bennett is an overrated hack of a DC, and a scumbag. I don't like Baylor.
Iowa State
PC: Iowa State actually looked pretty decent in the first half of this game. Sam Richardson is a serviceable FBS QB, but the 'Clones simply don't have any playmakers on offense. I know they love Coach Rhoads' up in Ames, and he is a passionate, hugely likeable guy, but he isn't getting the job done. Defense is about par for the course for an Iowa State team. Pretty decent and hard-working, but they get next to no help from the offensive side of the ball.
Non-PC: Iowa State is terrible, awful, and bad on offense. What they've been trying for it seems like the past 20 years needs to be scrapped and revamped. Iowa's QB has a name that the juvenile part of my brain thinks is hilarious, and I can't believe announcers can say it 20-30 times a game with a straight face.
Kansas
PC: ...
Non-PC: I literally can't think of a team Kansas could beat. Anywhere. Like, seriously. I'm wracking my brain here and nothing is coming to me. Not in the FBS, at least. Kansas is staggeringly bad. I'm not even sure how it's possible to be a Power 5 conference football team and be that awful. Do they still have football scholarships in Lawrence? Hello?
Kansas State
PC: Kansas State played pretty well against a team I honestly thought could give them some trouble. UTSA played very well against Arizona on the road, but K-State pretty much put them down with little trouble, aside from sluggish offense in the first half. They probably have a pretty good defense, given it's a Bill Snyder team, but the competition hasn't been stiff yet.
Non-PC: Snyder's new QB seems like he might suck, but he is a new guy so I guess he gets a pass for now. There's not much else to say about this game.
Oklahoma
PC: Baker Mayfield and the OU offense struggled for most of the game, but Sterling Shepard seemed to take over the game late and bail OU out. Props to Mayfield for his "grit" in leading his team back to a road victory in a tough SEC venue. The defense played well, but Tennessee isn't exactly a crushing offensive power.
Non-PC: Get real. Everyone knows Tennessee sucks, even Tennessee knows it. They don't have a QB on scholarship that could hit the water from a boat in the middle of a lake. It must be really nice to be a defensive coordinator in the SEC, because in at least half your games you are facing a QB that is lucky he can tie his own shoes and feed himself. Baker Mayfield made some nice plays toward the end of the game, but he played like a vortex of suck for at least 3 1/2 quarters. If Tennessee's offense had a pu...nay, existed, they lose that game in embarassing fashion.
Oklahoma State
PC: The Cowboys started slow (again) in the first half, but picked their game up a little bit in the second half, mostly thanks to the defense holding Central Arkansas back. Mason Rudolph was efficient, but the running game was anemic at best. Gundy will have to figure out what's going on with his offense if he wants his team to contend for the Big 12.
Non-PC: Mason Rudolph was practically given a happy-ending massage all off-season by ESPN and while he's not bad, he's not that great. I have no idea what the hype was all about concerning this kid. Their running game is crap. I'm not sure if that's a result of terrible offensive line play or pedestrian running backs, but what they've got going on now isn't going to cut it in conference play.
TCU
PC: Big day for Boykin and the TCU offense, SFA is a pretty hapless opponent, but TCU did what a highly ranked power 5 team is supposed to do: Destroy the FCS team you're playing.
Non-PC: TCU's defensive starters are dropping like flies, and there has to be a sense of "crapping their pants" in cow town right now. Not that anyone but Tech and Baylor (and to a lesser extent WVU) have shown any sort of offensive fireworks in the conference so far. TCU will circle the drain and implode if Boykin somehow gets hurt.
Texas
PC: Jerrod Heard got the start, as Longhorn fans everywhere rejoiced. He was certainly better than Tyrone Swoopes (even though he only threw 7 passes), but the Longhorn offense still struggled, only scoring 28 points (14 of their 42 came on a punt return touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown).
Non-PC: This was a weird ass game, and the Horns' offense is still terrible, despite their good feels about their dominant 14-point win over Rice. Texas only ran 38 plays and only gained around 270 yards. This game is another big loss against any team with a pulse. Their offensive line is practically non-existant. Dumpster fire.
West Virginia
PC: Skyler Howard looks very good. The 'Eers have a solid offensive line, solid offensive playmakers, and a solid defense. In a word, they're solid. They don't look amazing, but they don't seem to have any glaring flaws. They will be a tough team to beat for anyone in the conference.
