I didn't see another thread on this and the Clockwork Orange thread got me to thinking about the scariest flicks out there. I love scary movies but very few of them (IMO) are really that scary because they are either too stupid or too tame.
I'm interested to hear everyone's scariest movies. Hopefully I'll find a few new ones to check out.
My top 3 in order:
1) The Exorcist -- and it's not even close; no movie has freaked me out like this one. It wasn't so scary when I first saw it because it was "edited for TV" and they really left all the shocking parts out. But seeing the uncut version kept me up many nights.
2) The Amityville Horror (original) - this mainly scared me because I read the book first and it was supposedly a true story. There was a part about a ceramic lion biting someone, and when I read the book I was in our living room late at night with a ceramic lion my Mom made about five feet from me.
3) Nightmare on Elm Street - Dream movies where you don't know whats real and whats a dream freak me out.
