"...his proficiency in Kingsbury’s offense provides this team with growing belief in Mahomes, who turned 20 last week. They are convinced that “Patty Ice” will do what is necessary to win despite his youth.

Unsure which Mahomes vs Arky pic I like more, this one

The article begins like this:
Texas Tech offensive players were in a boisterous mood Monday when they gathered to watch game film of the Red Raiders’ upset victory over Arkansas.

But one play loomed larger than the rest in the celebration. When sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes leveled Arkansas strong safety Rohan Gaines early in the game with a devastating downfield block that sprang Justin Stockton for a big gain, it set the tone that the Red Raiders wouldn’t be intimidated.

“Everybody was going crazy,” Tech senior wide receiver Jakeem Grant said. “Pat sold out on that play. It was wild watching it again. Everybody appreciates what he did.”

The play demonstrated that Mahomes is more than just a bunch of gaudy numbers on a statistic sheet. Not only can he slice through opposing defenses, he can also bash through them with his helmet and shoulder pads, too.

“He got the effort play for this week and he deserved it,” Stockton, a Steele High product, said with a chuckle. “(Tech) Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury said he was proud of him for doing that, but then he told him never to do it again.”

Tech coaches might have been fearful about Mahomes staying healthy. But his teammates loved his intensity.

“That shows you the kid is willing to put everything out there for his team,” Tech senior center Jared Kaster said. “That’s what you play football for are to have teammates like that. That’s the guy you want to have leading you.”

Saturday’s game will be the middle game of an early gauntlet that will also include No. 5 Baylor next week in Arlington.

“It’s going to be great competition,” Mahomes said. “To start off with great teams, it will be a good trend setter to see where we’re at and make ourselves known as a team that can be in the Big 12 (title race) and make something happen.”

Last season, Mahomes got some late playing time in an 82-27 loss to TCU, entering after Webb left the game with an injury. He completed 5 of 11 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown, was intercepted once and ran for 18 yards.
