Some of the OGs reminiscing in the "lurkers" thread started by Golan reminded me of the good ole days of RRS when being on this site had you really feeling like an insider with the RRC on Fridays and everything that came with it. Figured I'd share an experience I had when I first realized just how plugged in the RRS guys were back in the day.
I painted up with the Fro Bros for basketball games my freshman year ('06-'07). @Armen W. was the guy running the show for them at the time and was also plugged in (maybe already working for?) RRS. One of the last official visit weekends in late January-early February of 2007 there were a bunch of our committed guys coming in and I guess the football staff wanted a group to go to the airport to greet the players coming in. Armen pulled a few of us aside and told us about a player out of Houston committed to Texas that we were trying to flip and he was coming on the visit that weekend unbeknownst to Texas as Mack Brown didn't let committed players take visits to other schools. Our assignment was to, basically, identify this guy when he came off the plane with a picture provided and then "recognize him" and act surprised and excited that he was on a visit. Make him feel like a big star effectively. We ended up not flipping him and he didn't really do much for UT that I can remember, but it was cool to see how plugged in the RRS guys were as that, no doubt, came directly from the football staff as they were the only ones who would have known. RRS has been my "hard to explain to other people" hobby ever since.
Armen was a good dude. Sent me the RRC in an email for about 6 months when I was too broke to spare the $10 a month for the site subscription.
