Darrell Morey is at it again.
He has just acquired Denver point guard Ty Lawson for a truck load of bench players and a protected draft pick.
Advantage Rockets.
After the season ended, point guard was a huge deficiency for the team. No longer. Morey has already resigned NBA second team all defense Pat Beverly and now has traded for Lawson, an elite point guard.
Morey drafted two young bigs who should be very good additions and has already resigned Corey Brewer, who was instumental in last year's success.
Further, Morey has resigned young K. J. McDaniels, an athletic young player who was acquired last season from Philadelphia.
Lawson has some legal hurdles to clear for the two DWIs this year but once he gets past that (and hopefully matures), he could be a game changer for the Rockets. Houston gave up Nick Johnson, Kostas Papanikalau, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey and the protected first round pick. In my opinion, this package was very affordable for a talent like Lawson, whose ability is not in question.
The bottom line is Houston just got a lot, lot better.
