Got this from TheOldCoach.com--a Rivals site for Texas High School Football which is a free site. Looks like it came directly from the Texas A&M site. Thus, it will have an Aggie bias to it.

It was a busy weekend for Channelview QB Jalen Hurts.

He took part in a tack meet Friday, placed second in the state powerlifting competition Saturday, and picked up a scholarship offer from Texas Tech Sunday. In between, he traveled to College Station to attend Texas A&M's Friday Night Lights scrimmage and picked up an offer from the Aggies in the process.

"We went up there Friday thinking it was a possibility, since they'd been talking to him for a while, and they did (offer)," said Jalen's father and head coach, Averion Hurts.

The 6-foot-2, 196 pound signal caller has seen his recruitment explode over the past couple of months, picking up more than a dozen offers. Besides A&M, Hurts has also picked up offers from SEC West foes Mississippi State and Alabama, as well from Kansas State. Coach Hurts said his son has learned from the recruitment process past Channelview players and has kept his feelings on the college search largely to himself.

"He's not the kind of guy who wants attention. He's not much for social media and all that stuff," coach Hurts said.

Instead, Jalen Hurts has allowed his playing to do his talking for him, throwing for more than 2,500 yards and 21 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions while running for 19 more scores in 2014. Coach Hurts said that, while his son
has the ability to make plays with his feet, he's a passer first.

"I say that [Jalen]'s a quarterback who's just fast enough to be a runner," he said. "He's got a strong arm and good touch, but he can also run and keep plays alive with his feet."

Averion Hurts, who has known Jalen's recruiter and Aggie running backs coach Clarence McKinney since his days as a high school coach, said both he and his son enjoyed the Friday Night Lights experience.

"They've got a good bunch of coaches up there, and they do things right. The new defensive coordinator (John Chavis) is going to make a difference," he said. "As a parent, it was also good to take the tour and hear about all the support staff they have to help the kids academically."

The Aggies' style of offense, where quarterbacks have plenty of leeway to change plays at the line of scrimmage, also appealed to both player and coach.

"(Changing plays) is something that he's gotten better at as he's been our quarterback for the last three years," coach Hurts said. "This past year he had the chance to make a lot of changes at the line, and most of the time the changes were for the better."

With in-state schools A&M, SMU, Texas Tech, UTEP and Houston having all offered, coach Hurts was asked if staying in Texas was a top priority for his son.

"He's got to grow up sometime," Averion Hurts replied. "I don't think staying in-state will be that big of an issue."

Even though coach Hurts has the unique vantage point of approaching Jalen's recruitment from a coaching perspective, he's also plainly a proud parent.

"It's great to see these offers come in, because it's showing that all the hard work he's put in has paid off," coach Hurts said.

Jalen Hurts is rated as a four-star prospect and the eighth dual-threat quarterback overall in the 2016 class by Rivals.com.
