best served cold.

So goes the old Klingon proverb.

The game I have thought about for a year is now upon us.

One image still burns in my mind from that bitter, bitter day. There was a sequence in the game in the second half where the camera caught a smug Doug Meacham making a flapping sign with his hands at his ears as if simulating an elephant, a smirk on his face I can still see today. Was he alluding to the fact they knew our signals? Was it just another dig at a downtrodden opponent? I remember Cumbie later on the sideline in the fourth quarter down from the press box looking a little concerned and talking to him as if to say "maybe we should let up a little bit ...." Sure they ran more than they threw at the end of the game, but we all know this was the street fight where the winner gets one last kick to the throat of an unconscious opponent. One last kick ....

Well a year has passed and we clearly have a team that hit bottom, learned a lesson, and set about cleansing the bitter memory of defeat from their collective consciousness. I've not sensed this much substance and unity from the Red Raiders since the 2009 Alamo Bowl. I have seen all I need to see in three games to realize that these young men are playing with a singleness of purpose. And that's a credit to the seniors and a leader at QB who will not be denied.

So what can we do, those of us who will be there this weekend? I think you know.

If I could, I would start a new tradition for Coach Gibbs on Saturday. Rather than borrow the corny Aggie-ism of the 12th man, I'd rather us be 11A. I'd ask Coach Gibbs to play the first defensive snap with ten men, running a senior off the field. Then I would ask the crowd to be so loud that the Frogs would either false start, call a time out, or get a delay of game. That is what I envision as our role this week in the Jones.

Ear splitting mayhem.

You have a good team my friends. Young men who play hard. Who play for each other. You have good coaches. Coaches who are starting to gel as a staff.

And you have the best home field advantage in the conference. Saturday you get the chance to prove it ....

This may very well be the last cyber appearance of IGN. Everything has it's time and place. So I will say, one last time, Coach Iron Guts Nooner beseeches you to bring your very best to the Jones. Together we cannot be defeated.

Long Live the Matadors!
